Damaged MRE*Star snacks.

Post by cat » Mon Nov 24, 2008 12:20 pm

I bought a case of MRE*Star MREs, about half of them have been hanging around so I thought I would start eating them this week. I opned one sealed bag and found that the "dry fruit" pouch has a little slit near the edge where it was sealed, sure enough it was all the way into the bag, damn, have to toss that one. So I opened another sealed MRE, same thing but in a different place. As a matter of a fact, all 6 of the remaining bags have 1 or more of the inner foil bags were breached with a tiny rip.

I believe this is due to handling and packing because holding one of the bags in my hand and bending the bag back and forth where it has been sealed causes it to crack every time.

I thought you may want to check if you stock any MRE*STAR mres, if this defect is in all of there products you may not want to depend on them.

PS: I tried the same thing with some military style snacks, they are made from a completely different material, but I tested them anyhow, you could bend them all day, they are not going to crack.

That really sucks, cat. At least you found the damage before you were in a situation where you were depending on the food. Have you contacted MREStar about this?

Yeah, MRE*Star is awful when it comes to quality.

I gave those a try - the juice powder was always moist and clumped up. No wonder they don't make MREs for the military - their quality isn't up to par.
