Safe To Refrigerate Leftovers?

Post by excelblue » Sat Nov 22, 2008 3:46 am

I'm a college student, and I only have this tiny refrigerator in my room to store groceries.

When I look at prices, convenience, etc. the T-packs seem to be the best deal. However, as I'm only one person, there's no way I can finish three squad trays without destorying myself.

Looking at how much I eat though, I figured that I'll get through three squad trays within four or five days (with two meals each day averaging 5 servings total).

Question is - is it safe to store opened tray packs for so long in the fridge and reheat as needed? I figured that if it worked, it could be the best way to have "healthy" food in the convenience of my dorm.

If you are asking about the T (tray)-18:

I can´t imagine "...three squad trays within four or five days ...".
I eat a couple of them. T-18 are designed to feed 18 peoples...
You may eat ONE T-18 in four or five days - my suggestion! If you like the same dish every day...

But there is no reason why not to freeze them or keep them a couple of days refrigerated, but I didn´t tryed it yet!

you could call all the homeless around and distribute the leftovers but if they sick after and they find a good lawyer it will cost you enough money for a train load of MRE's

excelblue, if you can fit one of those trays in your little refridgerator or move the contents into something smaller, I'd say the food would probably last a week. Heck, the stuff is supposed to last for years when it's sealed up so I'd guess that after it's opened, you'd get at least a week out of storing it in your fridge.

Just guessing, though - practice safe eating.

Yeah, I figured - well, these cost less than individual meals when you consider the amount.

So - 18 people means 18 meals, not 18 servings?

Eg. if everyone gets three scoops of corned beef hash or something, that'll feed 18?

Nah, its 18 pieces of whatever, not really 18 servings IMO. Those buffalo chicken pieces are good, but I can eat 2-3 in a sitting no prob.
