Oldest MRE or oldest other food you have eaten

After reading all these replies I guess I wont be afraid to dig into my 2001 stash.Years ago I had a couple of pork patty entrees. The writing on the packaging was wore off.Didnt realize they had to be rehydrated so I know now why they tasted a little 'off". Oh well, live and learn.

There was a tin of powered eggs for sale of ebay.co.uk a while back circa 1942-3, very kindly sent by the Americans in WW2 to the UK.

That would have been interesting, if I see another one I might just get it and have a look/smell/prehaps taste or is that just a little too far?

A friend of mine that is in the USMC told me that any C-rations were supposed to last a loooonngg time, IF it was well kept and the cans(s) have no bumps,holes or heavily rusted.

Usually the CD shelter/bunker rations also have a long shelf life....

I think the c-rations (MCIs, really) could last 20 years easily or even 30 years if stored really well. And then there are those mutant rations like one of the guys here dug up recently that were 50+ years old and looked like they had just come off the production line. Those are a real treasure!

There was another thread here recently (by German_EPA?) where someone found a 1950's MCI whose cans looked pristine. I'm not talking "no leaks or bulges", I'm mean the cans were still shiny.
