When I was a kid I found that it was better to fire 30 rounds from an old WWII auto gun than a .22LR or even an air gun because in the guards' mind "plink!" or "BAM!" meant : "there's a kid poaching over there" but "TATATATATATATAT!BLAM-BLAM-BLAM ...TATATA...TATATA" meant "oh it's only the Army doing a military exercise"
