Sure-Pak MRE questions

Post by EMROG4622 » Sun Jul 20, 2008 10:17 pm

I have a few questions about some Sure-Pak MREs. I have found that some of the small brown boxes inside each MRE have been opened and resealed with brown tape or glue. Is this normal?

Today I ate one of the Beef Enchiladas MREs with a 2006 date on it. The MRE inlcluded a Macaroni and Cheese Mexican style side dish dated 2004.

Another MRE I had several months also dated 2006 had an apple sauce side dish in a dark green pouch. All of the other pouches are a tan/beige color.

Are any of these cause to be concerned?

Thanks

John

Welcome to the forums, EMROG4622 (John)! There was a similar question about those boxes that were taped here:

My take on it was just that the packager decided to use tape that day instead of glue. Maybe their glue machine broke? I suppose it *could* be an example of when they opened a box to quality inspect the contents and then resealed it.

That's pretty odd about having the 2006 entree with a 2004 side dish. Has anyone else seen that? My first thought is that Sopakco just had extra older sides they wanted to use up. But it's still kind of surprising that they'd put a 2 year old side dish in a supposedly "fresh" MRE.

And I'm not sure what to make about the dark green vs. tan pouches. That's one thing I haven't been paying close attention to lately but I'll go over some of the pics I've been taking of the MREs I've eaten and I'll see if there are any variations.

I have run into this same situation with the case of Sure-Pak mre's that I have. When I opened the Beef Steak with mushrooms meal my, entree box was resealed with glue. I believe the reason for this is because Sure-Pak puts their meals in their own boxes for civilian MRE's. So, they most likely have a overrun of items from their military issue MRE's and they take those items out of the Mil boxes and put them into the civy boxes. If you compare the print on the Sopakco mil and civy boxes you can tell that they are completely different.

i have seen taped boxes never in military issue ones though.

The taped boxes were actually opened and resealed with tape. The print type on the pouch matched the print type on the end of the box, but the there was a difference in the time stamp. The dates matched. Anyway thanks for the info. :)
