Why is it just 22 month and not 2 years?

Do yourself a favor and read his description via Babelfish :D and understand why this ration won a gold medal award "honorable first place"

I've switched over to http://translate.google.com lately - it seems to do a better job for me. Thanks Kman

So, after reading that it seems that they won a rations "battle" in '97 in Geneva. But, it seems like they got a honorable mention of first place?.?.?. what the hell does that mean Honorable mention for first place? So, that means that they almost won but, didn't and a judge just gave them a pat on the back? I mean what the hell? And who were they competing against besides the German military? Mongolia? Eritria? I mean come on...
The other two contests seem like they were against other russian manufacturers and they won both...against OTHER RUSSIAN MANUFACTURERS...

So this proves and establishes the fact that these rations still are dog poop, the ration "competitions" they won are bullshit and that they're not worth even half of the asking price.

Ouch - these machine translators :)

As a native german I can say that the german text in the auction must be machine translated from another language - the semantics are in most cases not german (but the words are, of course and I think someone has improved the text a little bit after the translation).
Now the next man translates it with a machine to english, so maybe from russian to german to english. Let´s shift it to french and then back to german :) :)
Maybe it improves the readability *lol*

Definitely a desirable item.

If someone would sell these in volume for a more reasonable price, they would go like hotcakes (for the novelty, not the quality of the food).

If they are too greedy, they will get stuck with them.

AGREED, DEFINITELY!! It is a very cool item to have in the collection especially for all of us ration fanatics.

I agree with both Mkim and Richard W. If they lower the prices they could be sold faster.... As a soviet memorabilia collector I would buy a few, specially the VDV's and its different variants....So far I have one, a Helo pilots ration in a bag.... :D
Too bad those "tovarisch" are more interested in earning our "rubles"....lol

Russian rations

Post by donaldjcheek » Mon Jul 21, 2008 1:43 pm

Historically, rations in both the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation are bad. The high-starch, high-fat, low quality content has been maintained consistently through Soviet/Russian ration history.

Soldiers in the 1980s complained about greasy, tasteless canned mush in the mountains of Afghanistan, and their sons are eating pretty much the same stuff in Chechnya. Only the packaging has changed.
"I think," said Christopher Robin, "that we ought to eat all our Provisions now, so that we shan't have so much to carry."
