Foreign Rations other then ebay

Post by NightSniper » Tue Jul 15, 2008 6:41 pm

Hello everyone.

Can foreign rations/mres be purchased from any reliable sources other then ebay? Can they be purchased from over seas and shipped into the US?

I am looking for the british 4 man or 10 man meals. Or am i just dreaming about getting one?

There is also a guy from russia that said he could get just about any russian issue meal that I desired but shipping was very expensive. But didn't know if they could be sent into the US or not.

I think the most reliable place to buy foreign rations outside of eBay is right here on the forums with our other members. There are certainly a few online stores over the Great Britain and France where you might be able to find rations but good luck getting them to ship to the US.

And as far as shipping, whether it's from eBay or here, shipping is still going to be obscenely expensive - there's just no way around it.

As far as that Russian guy and what he was selling, I don't know if he's the same one on eBay that we discussed here:

viewtopic.php?t=1740

but that guy was pretty unreasonable in his bargaining style - he'd offer the rations for a number, you'd offer lower, then he'd *raise* his price.

My recommendation would be to try some of the members here to see if anyone can help you (and be prepared for major shipping $$). If that doesn't work out, check out these eBays, not just the local US version:

Thanks for the info kman. I had no idea that there were different ebays for different countries. Found a few items that I was looking for just have to wait and see if they will ship to the US.

So lets say that I purchase a 10 man unit off of ebay right now it has to go through customs and then they can/will cut open my box and take out what they think shouldn't come into the country?

That kinda sucks pay that kind of money to get it shipped and you don't even get everything you purchase.

Can you point me in a direction of what can and can't come into the country that might come in rations?

Of course, I can't speak for Customs and say exactly what they will or won't do, but I don't think they'll open up your box and take out what's not allowed - I think they'll open your box, see something prohibited, and then stop shipment of the box entirely. I don't know how it works for sure, but I wouldn't expect anyone to see that box again if that happens.

Personally, I've had two cases of Meal Kit Supply MREs sent to me from Canada. In the first case, US Customs opened the case of MREs, resealed it, and shipped it on to me. In the second case, they didn't open it. At least with the second case, it had an actual label on it that said it was FDA certified for import, so that might have helped. Or it could be that the first case got picked for inspection and the second case didn't. You just never know.

As for where to look for more info, I can start you off with a couple of links but you're probably better off Googling for "us customs importing food" to see all the links that turn up. But here's one of the first links I ran across:

US FDA: Importing Food and Cosmetics into the United States
http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~lrd/imports.html

From: FAQs - Frequently asked U.S. Customs Questions
http://germany.usembassy.gov/germany/fa ... oms.html#5
5. What about taking food with me to the U.S.?
U.S. Department of Agriculture regulations prohibit tourists from bringing fresh, dried, and canned meats and meat products from most foreign countries. If any meat is used in preparing a product, it is prohibited. Bakery items and all cured cheeses are admissible. Imported foods are also subject to requirements of the Food and Drug Administration and may be seized upon inspection if, in the opinion of the FDA, they pose any health risk of any kind.

If you are not sure whether you can bring a certain product, the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service of the Department of Agriculture will be able to assist you: http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/id_vi ... velers.xml

I can recommand you the Ebay shop of "UK-Soldier" at ebay Germany.
He offers:

A case of 10 brit. rat packs for €125 (=USD 200) and will ship world wide! Ask him, he is UK native and language will be no problem! Shipping with DHL will be for a 19kg parcel €62 = USD 99 (The USD dropped yesterday again from 1.55 to 1.6 for €1 ) So its a total of ~USD 300

Or are you asking for this 10 men 24 hrs ration?

I am having?

I also have that 4 men box (bottom right)

but it´s just 4 brit ration packs in an extra box. Not worthy to pay extra than for 4 regular brit rat packs.

Your biggest problem at the moment is the exchange rate.
$1.50 or more for a Euro, and still climbing.
As mentioned above, $1.60 now.

If there is any silver lining to that cloud, it's that now would be a good time for US members to sell on ebay to the EU. I have recently been buying even small simple household items. Even with the shipping they are still cheaper than local shops.

As for rations, I have dealt with UK-soldier for UK packs and he is recommended.

Yeah- U.S. Customs doesn't want to allow foreign meat products.

I believe that is why all those beautiful EPA's that the Germans donated to the Katrina relief were wasted.

Yep.

They denied a shipment of 30.000 (15tons) German Bundeswehr EPa´s that had already landed at Airport Pensacola/FL. The first shipment of 20.000 EPa´s had already been given to the victims.
The US-Government "concerned" about BSE-contaminated rations. The same rations that are issued to US troops in Afghanistan  But UK and Russian rations had been send back under same pretense.

One real reason was, that they (government) considered foreign aid as a disgrace/offense against their own organisations.

The rejection of rations (Ger, UK and Russian) was a/the reason why money donates was just €790.000...
