Menu C vs Sure-Pak

Post by excelblue » Mon Apr 21, 2008 3:16 am

I've tried the Menu C's and have been quite impressed by them.

The question is - does Sure-Pak compare at all for a higher price (since there's always these crazy coupon codes for those Menu Cs)>

The main complaint i have about Menu C is the lack of variety in sides and drink mixes. Does Sure-Pak address that, or will I be in for a disappointment?

What are you seeing for pricing? If you could click on the "Profile" link at the top of the screen and add your location (Country at least), that would help us nail down pricing for you.

But if you're in the US, I'm seeing Menu Cs at mredepot.com for $80/case and Sure-Pak 12s at theepicenter.com for $72/case. Both places are on the West Coast so shipping should be comparable.

If you're curious about the exact contents of the Menu Cs vs. the Sure-Paks, you can check out the exact menus here:

Just keep in mind that the Sure-Paks change their menus often. The menus I have listed above for them might change but from what I've seen, all the MREs in a case typically have the same drinks. Also, the Sure-Paks only have 6 different entrees vs. 12 in the Menu Cs.

I have to agree with excelblue, the sides provided in the "C" menus stink.

In a real MRE you get mashed potatoes with your meat loaf, refried beans with your enchilada, and Mexican mac & cheese with the beef patty. The Menu "C" gives you an entree and then a selection of the kind of empty calories you would expect to get if you sent a six-year old into a 7-Eleven with a ten dollar bill.

Unfortunately, the Sure-Pak is not that much better. They do toss in some refried beans and some fruit but they still give you things like Sloppy Joe filling with nothing to put it on.

If you can't get the real thing, you are better off to just buy the entrees and then get your empty calories from the super market.

In my experience, it's somewhat easier to give your friends menu C items, they prefer the junk food and don't want to deal with heating up a side too. That said, I prefer the regular MREs because they're more of a complete meal, but it's cool having a C case.

At mredepot.com - $80 + 21% coupon code discount + no shipping (pickup), it's $63/case.

At theepicenter.com, $72 + shipping comes up to about $85/case.

If you can get Menu C's for $63/case that's a no-brainer. Nothing in any of the other MREs (even the military versions) is worth an extra $23 if you don't need to pay it.

I must have missed it, but where are there coupon codes for mredepot? I'd like to try the Menu C's, but living on the east coast, the shipping is a real killer. So a coupon might ease the pain a bit.

I simply Googled from them.

For the 21% discount, you have: WARRIFLES and CALGUNS

There's a few more codes for lesser discounts that I have directly obtained from MREDepot.

Does anyone happen to know if there is a working coupon for MREdepot at the moment? I tried all the ones I could find on Google, and they all seem to have expired.

Thanks.
