i am eager to know about the items in mre that must be retorted for long shelf life and their packaging systems

Can you expand a little more on what you're looking for? The items that must be retorted in an MRE are all of the entrees and most of the sides. Basically they stick it into the bag, seal it, and then cook it if I understand correctly. This kills any germs/pathogens in the food and so basically they can sit, with nothing for germs to feed on, pretty indefinitely. I'm sure there's a section here and that kman will point you to it. Or a well linked article.

beverage powders,snacks,bakery items and ... how they could be sterlised
