shape of MRE cases

Post by Nawt » Tue Feb 12, 2008 4:52 pm

Sorry for askin but i could'nt find it back on the website. So I have a question,

when did the shape/design of the MRE cases change
from 'flat' to
square with the oversliding "oversleeve" to
the square case that is issued nowadays?

Are there perhaps years that both shapes were issued?

any info. is helpfull.
Thanks, Nawt.

Nawt, on the MRE Bag Design page, I have pics of all a lot of the MRE meal bags from over the years. While I was taking those pictures, I also took pics of the cases they came from. I'll try to get those pics put up tonight.

But from what I can tell right now, here's how it goes:

Flat cases with outer cardboard sleeve: 1981-1993

Rectangular (current) cases WITH cardboard sleeve: 1994-2000 (some cases)

Rectangular (current) cases WITHOUT cardboard sleeve: 2000 (some cases)-now

The reason for the "(some cases)" text above is because I've found pictures of some cases with the outer cardboard sleeve and some without. 2000 appears to be the transition year for the case design.

Ok guys...here's a sneak preview of what I'm putting together for an "MRE Case Design" web page.

If anyone has any pics to contribute, I'd love to see them. Right now, I'm missing pics for the following years:

1983, 1984, 1985, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1993, 2005

I see a pic of a case from 2005, do you need more? I'm pretty sure at least one of my cases is 2k5.
