They do have freeze-dried egg meals that are made by Mountain House:

Meal, Cold Weather/Long Range Patrol (MCW/LRP)

Check out Menus 10, 11, and 12: Western Omelet, Scrambled Eggs w/Bacon, Western Omelet.

The key with MREs is that they're "Ready to Eat" and freeze-dried meals just aren't. You can add cold water and give it time to soak in and it'll be edible but it's going to taste much better if you heat up the water first.

Good points Kman.

I knew about those other ration menus, that's why I used those particular entrees in my thought process (they're a standard item, already in "The System").

I considered the "Ready-To-Eat" aspect too; and I went back to the idea used in the initial issue of MREs in the 80's, specifically, the freeze dried Beef and Pork Patties, and the Potatoe Patty. They were new ideas at the time, added an additional dimension to the menue makeup, were actually tasty items, and (in my opinion) were worth the re-hydration time. Hot damn those Pork Patties were good!.

Anyway, that was my thought process. The freeze dried food has always been touted as being readily edible right out of the package, so one could always fall back on that premise that they are indeed "ready-to-eat". But for me at least, having what amounts to a true breakfast entree menue (and one that's really very good tasting to boot) is well worth the time needed to re-hydrate the entree.

Oh heck, I just now realized I left out a Beverage Bag in my phantom menue. :x I'll go back and change that --- who wants cold eggs in the morning? Yick! (although I sure as hell got my share when I was in the Army). Mermite cans = Gooooooooooood. Ice cold stainless steel mess kits: Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad!
Everything tastes better with Tabasco
