MENU C MRE contents and stuff
clogger, good luck...it sounds like you're going to need it. Getting a case or two of MREs through any country's Customs always seemed like a bureaucratic nightmare waiting to happen - but getting a pallet of them through offcially (meaning, you declare them as food products and file all the import paperwork) sounds like it could be a real mess.
I took a look at the link you sent and it definitely sounds like classifying them as a composite product is the way to go. Unfortunately, this step looks like it could be problematic:

As far as I know the only labelling on the MREs that show this information is the nutrition labels themselves on the MRE parts and pieces. So you'd either have to open up every meal bag and look at that info or have someone pull that info out and put together a commercial-looking document that contained all the info. When veterinary checks are not necessary:
A composite product that contains less than half its substance of processed product of animal origin other than processed meat product, and meets the following requirements of Article 6 of Decision 2007/275/EC:
- accompanied by a commercial document and labelled in an official EU language so that document and label together give information on the nature, quantity and number of packages of the composite product, the country of origin, the manufacturer and the ingredients
yep
i need someone who has a box (pretty please or go on) to go thru every item with details
or i may just order 1 box when it arrives go thru it with a fine tooth comb
or may be one sent as a sampler (hint hint)
then my idea is instead of a pallet full order say 10 boxes on a pallet
with as much detail as i can put on the invoice/packing/ bill of lading,
send it thru see what customs etc say and do about it
then when we know whats what , go for the biggy containing all the info
well it sounds like a plan to me,
hopefully a most cunning one
(even more cunning than a cunning fox on national cunning day) and try typing that when your drunk

re: MRE Mnu C contents and stuff
Sorry to hear about all the hassles UK Customs are giving you. I've been pretty lucky so far. My Menu Cs are currently held up at Canada Customs awaiting clearance, but when I called UPS they told me they should arrive next Wednesday. The only extra charge, besides the UPS brokerage fee ($31.03 CDN) is 14% HST (Harmonized Sales Tax...it's a combination of Federal and Provincial Sales Tax that is charged in all the Maritime Provinces). In the future, I'd like to order some of MRE Depot's blueberry cobblers but since they contain fruit, I wonder if they might not be allowed into Canada due to CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency)rules on the import of fruits and vegetables ?
