Heads Up! Mountain House Sale at Wal-Mart

Post by C-rats » Fri Jan 25, 2008 11:10 am

Hey guys, I was shopping at my local Wally World (Wal-Mart) last night and happened to swing through the sporting goods section to check on food & ammo prices (the basics of life, right? ).

About half of the selections of Mountain House freeze dried (2 person serving size) entrees are on sale with a savings of about $1.50 per pouch.

I picked up 3 each of the Chicken Breast with Mashed Potatoes and Beef Stroganof entrees ---- but there were several other entrees on sale as well.

Go get `em!

Wow...that's a great deal seeing as those things are usually around $5. Unfortunately for me, I've never seen any Mountain House food in any of my local Wal-marts. :-(

Wally world tonight. I own a bunch of those but it can't hurt to have more. I cleaned up on their sporting goods clearance the other day, picked up a bunch of stuff for my BOB.

I don't think so. The Wally Awacs(QA division) at the DC never saw any pallets of Mountain House stuff. Must be a weird regional thing. I'll check with Hope Mills, and see if they saw anything new off the inbound dock. I have'nt seen a thing!

Just got back from Wally World ---- dropped a little under a hundred bucks on the Mountain House freeze dried pouches. During checkout I spoke with a Sporting Goods clerk and she said that they were discontinuing the entrees they had on "clearance" sale (it seems those entrees don't sell as fast as the others). She was unsure if Wal Mart was going to replace the entrees with different menue items, or just cut back the total amount of entrees they carry (they have about half of their entrees on sale here in my town).

The Mountain House entrees on sale at my Wally are:

 Chicken Breasts with Mashed Potatoes $5.00
 Chicken Teriyaki with Rice $5.00
 Macaroni & Cheese $4.50
 Rice & Chicken $4.50
 Beef Stroganoff with Noodles $4.50

All entrees are the two-person serving size, and all are stamped with a "Best By" date of either AUG or SEP, 2014

Dang, I sure love playing with all the colors and other gizmos Kman provides us with...... (slow morning here in Arizona) :)

the sporting goods clerk i spoke to said they will not be getting any more mh pouches at all. at least at this particular walmart. also he said they just showed up no one ordered and that they did not have an option to order more. that is not too unusual for walmart i used to work there and we got random items sometimes that could not be replenished. most of the stuff at walmart is reordered automatically when a entire case is rang up at the registers it is auto ordered again.

I wasn't holding out much hope, but just to be safe, I checked my local Wal-mart yesterday. Sure enough, the only thing even close to food they had back in the sporting goods/camping section was Beef Jerky. :-(

Wow, that's interesting because my wally has had the Mountain House products (maybe close to 15 or so entrees, and the full line of freeze dried ice cream products) for at least the past full year.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the size of the store? For example, my store is called a Wal Mart Super Store ---- and it's huge!. What's yours Kman?
