As for how they do it in the military for soldiers with food allergies, I have no idea. Maybe one of the other guys here who served saw someone like this when they were in and can tell us about it.
Over here they take you out of service as soon as you have "any" allergy. The Army has to care and pay for anything if a soldier got sick one duty - even an allergy.
My brother was allergic agains down feathers, means he can´t sleep inside a sleeping bag. Against nuts also. He never saw any military installation from inside and we still have conscription over here.

At least as a civilian you have a number of alternatives for where to buy MREs and MRE parts and pieces.

Sorta, but not really, to buy MRE's is mostly "pot luck" especially by the case. as you wont know whats in the buggers until you've bought them. no vendor I've seen lets you pick what menu entries you want, or lists potential food allergies.

actually there are several sites where you can buy indivudual meals and sides so you just get what you want. for the most part they are reasonably priced as well.

So I can assemble MREs from components, for added "reasonable" cost from ebay, long life food depot, and maybe some others. or buy cases ala pot luck. I've noticed from lurking you guys all seem to draw from a shared common knowledge. "our favorite eBay vendor" comes to mind, some others escape me at the moment, without actually giving enough info to let a newcomer decipher what you are talking about.

please get a bit verbose and explain your selves. it just takes a few seconds, and the only one of us that pays this sites bandwidth cost is Kman, so go ahead and splurge on that text.

been away a few days, thanks for the reply. I lurked for quite awhile before joining the forums (as one should always do on "TeH Intarwebz", just never know when you've lurked enough). I've visited the main page and its civilian mre links. after reading them and the forums I have two questions. one, is there a way to get ready made MREs and have some control as to the menu picks. from what I've gathered its no, or make em yourself. is that accurate? if not where do you recommend? ebay? if so what seller has the best reputation? as a second question, in the actual military how do they deal with this problem?

As for how to control what menus you get, the only way I know to do that for sure is to contract with Sopakco directly to have them produce the MREs for you. The downside here is that you'll probably have to order thousands of MREs to get them to custom produce them for you. Meal Kit Supply Canada does this:

http://www.mreinfo.com/civilian/mre/mea ... -kits.html

The owner of that company decides exactly what he wanted in the menus and on his next production run at Sopakco, they pack them just like he requests.

Outside of custom ordering, your best bet is a place like The Epicenter:

http://www.theepicenter.com/mre_militar ... o_eat.html

They currently have three different sets of menus for Sopakco Sure-Pak civilian MREs. Most other places online only have one menu to choose from. So at least here you have a little choice.

To your second question, "in the actual military how do they deal with this problem?" - what problem is that - the allergies?

I did a little googling and it looks like "severe" food allergies will disqualify you from military service. But that still leaves "minor" food allergies and I don't know what they do then.
