Curios

Post by mreheater72 »

Hi,

here I want to show four items of my collection, that are in my opinion “curios”.

An “Accessory Packet D” from a 1985 Menu No. 9 “Chicken ala King”: It says “Accessory Pack”! A mistake in printing?

Here some MCI can with an address scratched in the finish:

Some B-2 Unit can from July 1979 manufactured by “DRI MIX PRODUCTS CORPORATION”. Out of about 220 cans it is the only one produced by “DRI MIX”, usually its SOUTHERN PACKAGING & STORAGE CO..

Here the stamp doesn’t hit the middle of the lid:

Interesting pics, mreheater72 - thanks for sharing.

I have one question for you on that accessory pack - how is it a mistake to call it an "accessory pack"? What was misprinted?

Take a look at he first line an you can read: “Packet D Accessory Pack Accessory Pac???”. Usually the printing is serial (Accessory Packet D Accessory Packet D Accessory Packet D), here the words differ, so I think it is misprinted. If you only read the words “Accessory Pack” in the middle of the pouch, you can’t recognize that it is the “Accessory Packet D” with the Catsup. Hard to explain!

Ah...I see what you mean. It's almost as if it's a repeating pattern of "Accessory Packet D Accessory Pack". That sounds nice and military. :-)

Hi guys,

here some more „curious“ ration items:

First you can see a C-ration can where neither on the upper lid nor on the bottom lid a caption is existent.

Here the upper side stamped with “4 78”. The kind of stamping, the weight and the sound by shaking points out that the can is a B-2 Unit Crackers, Cocoa Beverage Powder:

Here you can see the bottom side:

Here the upper lid and the bottom lid shown in a mirror:

Next you can see a “Chicken Boned with Broth” where both lids, the upper and the bottom, are printed with caption. First the upper side with stamp:

Here you can see the bottom side:

Finally a B-1 Unit can, where somebody has changed the caption into a B-2 Unit. When you shake the can it’s obvious, the contents are really B-2 Unit (Cocoa instead of candy):
