Food Packet, Survival, GP
Food Packet, Survival, GP
I found some of these one day, while inspecting our survival gear. They are USAF issue and I guess we used to pack them in survival containers before switching to Datrex food bars a few years ago. They are dated 1995, but I had one and they are still good. It comes with 1 packet of wintergreen tablets, 1 bullion broth, 1 tea, 2 shortbread bars, a corn flake cereal bar, a granola bar, and a chocolate bar. Not sure if anyone else has seen these before... I retired with 21 years in the service and this was the only time I have ever come across them, or even seen them before or since.

From where did you get that date?gcoop75 wrote: They are dated 1995,
Tan color rations started in 1996 and the pack date say "8295" what is 1998, Oct 21st (or 2008)

I agree with housil, the packaging seems different for a 90's production. That's a good thing though.. !

"Not bad."

If you look at the DOP card the last 2 digits are 95, so maybe that's why gcoop75 thought it was a '95 food packet. But regardless of the date, it's still a very nice find.

Re: Food Packet, Survival, GP
Hi guys, I figured 95 stood for 1995 as in Aug(8)-2-95, using the month/day/year formula. I didn't think they were made in 1982, using the usual year/day/ month formula the military used to use. These would have have way out of circulation when I came across them in 2006 if they were made in '82.

Also, here is some more info on them from a different website.

Cool pics! Does anyone know the shelf life on these bars?

mreheater72 also explained the date code in his posting.
It seems you aren´t familiar with the system of the datecoding on US rations?gcoop75 wrote:Hi guys, I figured 95 stood for 1995 as in Aug(8)-2-95, using the month/day/year formula.
Re: Food Packet, Survival, GP
According to Natick, "the storage requirement for this ration is five years at 80° F and one month at 140° F." Housil is also correct about the date code.rationtin440 wrote:Cool pics! Does anyone know the shelf life on these bars?
