2014 UK 24hr ORP, Menu #11- Part 2: Breakfast

Post by BTemple » Tue Oct 25, 2016 2:48 pm

Part 2: As a reminder, this UK 24hr ORP was sent to me as part of a trade by a great ration reviewer from Scotland who proudly served his country in Iraq! You can see him on YouTube as SCOTSMAN 1984. He sent me the actual ration itself as well as some older UK ration items and also a bunch of local Scottish food from around his area.

For Breakfast I decided to have the Muesli as the main entree. It was very hearty, with lots of raisins and sultanas, as well as pumpkin seeds. There was supposed to be sunflower seeds in there as well, as per the ingredients list, but they must be incognito. It was very tasty but it could use juuuuust a little bit of sweetness. Otherwise great.

Decided to have 2 different drinks for breakfast. The first ended up being perhaps the first hot chocolate mix I've had since I was a child. It was great. Too bad I didn't save a bit though and try it with cold water just to see what the difference would have been. Drink number 2 is an isotonic orange flavoured vitamin & mineral tablet. Tastes very similar to one of those vitamin C tabs or dextrose tablets you can get in a pharmacy, but not as bitter and not as "mediciney"....I'm sure that's a word.

Up next we have the Orifo apple & cinnamon cereal bar. It was perfect. Not too dense, nice chew and still enough crisp left to the rice krispies. Not a strong cinnamon flavour but just enough.

Next up, the biscuits. The package on the left was in the 24hr ORP but was COMPROMISED.... a very big hole in the side of the package, thus they had the texture of moderately hard cardboard... but oddly didn't taste too bad. On the right we have an extra packet of Biscuits sent to me in a separate bag in the package. These are 10 years old..... *insert ominous music*. They are a bit darker than the new biscuits, but that may be because they haven't been exposed to air and aren't stale.

For those biscuits we have these toppings. A German version of Nutella and a French Apricot jam.... ooooo fancy.
Both of these were delicious. The jam was perfect. The Squidge had a little less hazelnut flavour than Nutella and was a little less sweet, so it complemented the biscuits nicely. Also it must be said that the 10 year old Biscuits were perfectly crisp and fresh tasting.... which may be a little off-putting. Hahaha

Lastly we have a bit of dental gum to finish up. Lots of Xylitol in this, can't let the dog near it. The peppermint flavour was strong, but not as strong as I had anticipated.

Overall this ORP has been great thus far! Can't wait for Part's 3 and 4 to come later: Dinner and Supper.

Thanks everyone, hope you had fun.

Looking good!

Did you use hot or cold water on the muesli?

It's an amazing ration thus far.

I used cold water... I prefer cold oatmeal so that's a reasonable facsimile.

Awesome BT. Glad you are enjoying it. I am so miffed at customs for opening it and spoiling the Biscuits Broon but i suppose they could have removed stuff which would have been worse.
Got me Brew and i will be just fine!

The hole in the package looked like it was made by something round.... someone stuck a pen or something in it?
Thankfully the older ones were still great, really liked the taste of them.
