Chicken and Potato Stew was a hearty, filling base to the whole meal. It didn't jump out as overly flavorful, but it beats any canned chicken stew I could pick up in the store. I had this with a bunch of the bread substitute. I should mention, the "bread substitute" was Crispy Wholewheat Bread. The ingredients were whole wheat flour and rye flour so.... I'd call that actual bread. Maybe it's a substitute because it's a sort of extruded foam cracker thing? It was good though, like a wheat rice cake.

The yogurt started out looking fairly thin. I wasn't sure it was going to be very much like yogurt, and the instructions were a bit vague. The package said to use 100-125ml water, stir and let stand "for a short while". Minutes? Hours? YEARS? 6 or 7 minutes seemed fine  The color was a neat contrast to the rest of the meal. It was great - first powdered yogurt I've had and it was as good as any I've had fresh. The berries didn't completely rehydrate, but I liked them crunchy so that was fine by me.

Ok. On to the pate experience. The box had no ingredients listed in English. I'm not necessarily expecting that - it just seems to happen with most foreign ration items. That just means that in this case, thanks to the generic naming on the bag all I know is that this contains fish (one type? several?) and vegetables. Not so bad. I take some, spread it on a cracker, and go to give it a taste. The smell stops me for a moment. Clear as can be, I smell pumpkin pie. This is odd. I convince myself to go for it. The immediate taste was sweet, spiced pumpkin pie! The follow up taste a few seconds into chewing? Oh, that was unknown fish. I shared a tiny bit with my cat and devoured the rest. Why did I like this so much?

Throughout this I drank the vitamin-mineral drink, which was essentially lemon-lime gatorade. I had four of the vitamin tablets (bonbons?) with the meal too. They were candy with vitamins, but the candy part won out taste-wise. Last on the list - finished the meal off with the Wrigley's Orbit gum - sweetmint flavor.

Thanks for reading! Stay tuned for parts 2 and 3.

Ruleryak, you are on a roll here with some absolutely beautiful photo sets & reviews!

I got one of these in 2014, and wished I had don't it's justice on photos.. yours here so far is absolutely awesome!

Your detailed commentary makes anyone reading this hungry - now we all want a Slovenian Ration Type B.. hahah!

Everything about this thing sounds appetizing - the yogurt looks truly delicious - and your experience and comments on that pate had me laughing out loud over here! :D

That crispy bread is interesting isn't it? I have had that and the vitamin tablet candies and I must say both were very enjoyable.

The vitamin mineral drink was cool - mine had little bits of some brown spice in it! I have photos of my experience if anyone wants to see it.. not NEARLY as good of a set as yours here. Mine were botched - and I decided to not post it. :(

Cannot wait to see parts 2 & 3! woohoo!! :D

Great review and pics! I'd never seen a Slovenian ration before, so this was great to see what they are made up of. The yogurt mix was interesting, I'd never seen a yogurt mix before, especially in a ration. Thanks for sharing!

That was one of my more favorite reviews to do. I enjoyed it a lot. As fas as mixing the water I learned if you're doing these at home let the cold water stuff sit an extra 10 minutes longer than the directions and the heated stuff I stick in an insulated or Mylar bag (courtesy of Rocky Raab) and let it sit a little longer too.

Great pics
