Ration box?
Anyone know anything about this? I've had this box in my basement forever but I never knew the writing on the side was that of the military. Looks like the side of MRE boxes.
Yes to the following
I eat MREs as regular meals whenever I get them.
I think they're delicious.
I've had a 24 year old MRE (1991).
I would be crazy enough to eat a 1980 dated MRE and probably say I enjoyed it.

Interesting! Never seen one of those before, my guess is that they must be part of the freeze dried rations that were stocked in certain hardened areas. Can you open the case and take a shot of one of the packets? It looks like the box says it contains 162 individual envelopes of assorted flavors - I am wondering if its not just Quaker Oats, the instant variety in the Quaker Oats packaging. If not, then maybe its a case of the RCW oatmeal straight from the MFG. - to be used in the assembly of the RCW's.

It's filled with other stuff now. I totally wish it was still filled.cavguy wrote:Interesting! Re: Ration box?
I thought the box looked familiar. When I was in the national guard, my unit did an exercise with FEMA Region 10 and we got a chance to see what the bunker was like inside (nowhere near as cool as we thought it would be I'm afraid). Anyway among the breakfast options was from boxes nearly identical to yours but with more recent dates (at the time).
