German Menu II

so, I've had to take a hiatus due to some personal issues. Some say that the good lord never puts more on us than we can handle, and the last couple of months i've really wished he wasn't so confident in me... (anyone who's my friend on FB will understand why i use that particular smiley so often now...)

I started this review back in late March/early April, and am just now getting to post it. This is the first of 3, and I still have the rest put back for the other two. So, without further gilding the lily, a review 3 months in the making...

German Einmannpackung, Menu II

beverages and accessories

The two Entrees, Cevapcici (Yugoslavian Sausages) and Goulash

Image

Dessert, Chocolate bar, Matchbook, chewing gum, Water Purification tablets, and wipe

Image

Rye bread, the two Wursts, Jellies, and the butter...

Image

My lunch that day consisted of some of the rye bread, crackers, the beerwurst, a packet of the butter, and the Sour Cherry jam.

The rye bread was nutty, blended well with the sweet/tart cherry flavor and the tart creaminess of the butter/dairy spread. Rather fulfilling even before adding the Wurst and crackers. The wurst was something i have trouble describing, being reminiscent of a good Boars Head olive loaf without the brinyness of the olives. A mild, meaty flavor. Unfortunately, I really am not sure why they call it BierWurst, or Beer Sausage, because I found no hints, smells, or flavors of beer anywhere.

Thats all for this time, will be back as soon as I am able, and will bring more of this interesting meal.

Yes, the Lord gives us a hard time sometimes - but leads you out too

So the thing about "Bierwurst" or "Bierschinken" is, it´s not made from/with beer but it´s a pate that was eaten when having a snack around lunchtime called "Brotzeit" (="bread time") where you drank a beer with it.

Ok, that would explain it. Either way I would not hesitate to eat it again.

I'm a little late to respond on this, my apologies Elandil, when the goin' gets tough, we all understand you may not have quite as much time for those Ration reviews  Glad you were able to take the time to share this with us. Thanks man! Plus, I haven't gotten a good close up view of a newer German EPA II if I remember correctly.

Nothing so therapeutic for one to enjoy a fine and unusual foreign military meal! :D I feel ashamed to admit it, but in August 2013, I had a Dutch 24 HR Ration and never took photos. I shared it with my parents and it was literally the only ration they ever cared to try, we all loved it - and it was truly the highlight of that whole day which without that Ration, I would have probably never remembered that day.

I never tried the drink mixes in the EPA in fear of Aspartame - what do they taste like?

I love the Coffee & Tea Extracts.. both have bold flavor and pack a good caffeine boost.

Those Entree's look exactly like the ones I had in my 2008 EPA but different menus. Looks neat!
The bread, butter, jam, & wurst look so darn good from over here - I think you won the lucky Ration Guy of the Day Award for that experience! :D 8)
Nicely done of using the Swiss Army Knife to shape out the cuts on that wurst. Again, that looks awesome.

Can't wait to see more! :D

They are made from plain, evil sugar (="Zucker")

"Grapefruit" tastes sour, like grape fruit and "Exotic" tastes to me like "Red Bull" or white gummi bears, so I don´t like both of them.

Hey Housil, I know I had some EPA drink mixes that had Aspartame - it says contains phenylketonurics and in German it's spelled something like Aspartam. Trust me, I had some 08' EPA's I'd gotten and I didn't try any of the drinks because they had that listed.. now lemme see if I maybe have a picture.
I have one sachet of it left, but it's sealed in a custom Ration I put together (I have been taking Ration pouches and turning them inside out and refilling and re-sealing them with various components and heat-sealing them with my Food Saver).

You are right, the "Exotic" contains "Aspartam". I have to take a look on mine, non-Aspartam was "Grapefruite"

Thank you for sharing that, Elandil! I would absolutely love to try some EPA drinks without the Aspartame. That is such a dangerous and nasty little sweetener and I try my hardest to stay away from it.
