I just took a look at the Eversafe site, which I hadn't visited in a couple of months. Unfortunately, it looks like they've done away with the MRE-looking meals and have settled on the Bowl meals:

This is too bad. We really didn't need another "Heater Meal" type of meal - we just want the same military MRE that we know and love but in a form that we can just order case after case of off the Internet.

After this, I'm convinced Wornick isn't serious about the civilian MRE market. These EverSafe meals look like they spent more time thinking up a color scheme and bag design than they did the actual contents. Chalk one up for the marketing folks.

I just found out AmeriQual is producing a civilian version MRE.

It's the same packaging and meals I've come to know and love with fewer components. (It has a heater!) 1100-1500 calories in a bag....and really affordable!

Funny you should post that just now. I was just emailing with the guy who runs mrefoods.com asking about the new civilian MREs. They're called "aPack" meals. Hopefully he'll be able to post some pictures and reviews for us.

I did a quick google search but mrefoods.com was the only place I could find any info about them.

I agree with you. I was disappointed with Wornick's Eversafe meal,
as well as the price. Wornick's 1999 civilian MREs were a better deal.
I think they are going after the corporate emergency market.
I'd rather order off ebay or parts from epicenter.

You're welcome for the tip. You're correct on getting the "a-pack" from MREfoods.com. It is a very NEW product and AmeriQual is working to get distribution set up.

I got a case of the A-Pack and LOVE the Chicken, Black Bean and Rice meal..(it's a South Florida favorite!) The Chicken Tettrazini is great too. (I've only sampled two meals)

I will say though, my meals have a white spoon (not Spork)...

In my honest opinion, after eating all the different meals that I could find while researching my guide, "What To Do 'til The Cavalry Comes", the A-Pack is a winner. (based on calories per dollar, TASTE and simplicity of use....EZ open bags.)

TODAY, I'm sitting watching the season's first TROPICAL DEPRESSION move into the Gulf of Mexico and debating whether I should order MORE!

SoFloAuthor, do you have any pics of te aPacks you could share? What are the contents of it? I saw the info on the mrefoods.com site but it wasn't very specific. I'd be interested in hearing exactly how it differs from the MREs. Thanks!

Ah, the nuances of fine dining....the A-pack is a cost effective civilian MRE in my eyes. A-Pack comes with a standard AmeriQual entree (standard meaning one of six different menus in a retort pouch), there's a shortbread cookie, raisuns (osmotic), a fig bar (and or a toaster pastry), an FRH, pepper, a moist towelette, a drink mix and a spoon in each.

There's no coffee, creamer, TP, gum or baby Tabasco is the A-Pack and the A-Pack calorie count is like 1150-1500 calories per bag however with a cost of less than $75 including shipping for a dozen meals AND the fact they are NEW production and fresh, I'm a believer!

So no crackers and spreads, eh? That's kind of disappointing - that's always been one of my favorite parts of MRE dining - the pre-dinner cracker ritual.

kman....dude I wasn't writing a menu. Look at the posting for the product in the forums. There are crackers, spreads, cookies....no gum, no butt wipe, no tabasco......for me, these are the HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS PACK needed by civilians........

(I too love the MIL-MRE) However....the "a-pack" will meet the need.
