RCI's were from 1945-1961, an early attempt at a 24 hour ration.

I guess they stopped producing 1958, because that time the first MCIs (that kind of ration had no key for opening at the bottom of the cans) were manufatured.

There was probably some overlap, the military in not too efficient!

dirtbag, ok, you are right
! C-Rats were issued until the stocks were depleted, I do not know the year. I have one complete MCI from 1959 in my collection, I will show that rare ration here soon...

I'll bet there were C-Rats stored all over the world for decades after MCI's came along.
Reserve outfits, National guard, old Navy ships etc...
Nothing gets thrown away unless authorised!!!
Probably lots of MCI's and Brown MRE's out there too.
I remember opening up a 50 Lb box of frozen 'Boneless Beef' in 1969, that was dated 1943
Shiney green and purple..
