I have an older first generation Jetboil and have had no problems. You might have received a defective unit. If its really recent get ahold of Jetboil and see if the warrenty is good and where the closest distributor is. If one is close by send it there to see if they will replace it or give you a new one.
If it is made in China it wouldn't surprise me....

I'm thinking of getting a jetboil mug and using that as part of my mess kit; The mug is nice because of the heat spreader. The burner and fuel canister however don't seem like a good option for bugging out, once you run out of fuel, you have a useless hunk of metal as opposed to a cup stand which you could build a small fire under out of wood.

Very sorry to hear of you less-than-happy experience with jetboil, sodjer. I can indeed confirm that part is made in China, and unfortunately several of my friends who have purchased the entire system have had similar negative experiences. It would appear that the system, being designed for mass marketing to hikers, climbers, and other outdoors types, has the same flaws as alot of what is being produced: quantity over quality. The philosophy at the manufacturer seems to be "well if we make them cheap enough and they malfunction, they won't cost too much for the customer to replace, and we can always shift to something else if these jet-boils don't sell well." Reality, for you and I on the other hand.....

If your replacement doesn't work out, you might consider checking out the Primus ETA. As far as I know they're the only competitor to Jetboil.
