RCIR Menu 3 Navarin d' Agneau and Taboulé Volaille

This time I would like to introduce Menu 3.This menu had the best before date of June 2013 and I didn't want to store it.
I didn't eat everything in the menu.I saved the sardines and the cheese for later.As I mentioned before I don't eat a complete menu at once.

Chicken Tabbouleh...I noticed that mint is also in the ingredients...

I opened the tin.Looked good,smelled good...nice chicken.Then I smelled the mint...I don't know how about You but I don't really like mint... not even mint tee.

There is one thing I find interesting in RCIRs.The entrees taste bland.Salt and pepper is a must.But after seasoning they taste so good I added some hot ground pepper too because I like hot&spicy food. I gave it 4 stars out of 5.
My dessert was apricot jam and crackers.

I love apricot jam.Jam and crackers were not the perfect combination but It must be a moral booster in the field.

Next time when I didn't have time to cook I decided to eat the Navarin d' Agneau: Lamb Stew. I like lamb very much. I expected something like that this:

Well,this Lamb Stew looked different:

I usually heat the entrees in a pot not in the tin.I put the salt and pepper in it and enjoyed it...delicious.4 stars out of 5.
Next time I would like to review some entrees from different menus.

Lucky you, it´s a 24hrs ration and a loooot of stuff

I´m a big fan of French rations as they are a nice variety in taste. What I realy appreciate is the posibillity to make "Café au lait" from the ration. Just the soup is "nick-nack" to me as you always have to boil water in a pot just to get "a soup". Not the most efficient way in the field.

What I like is their foldable cooker and that click-at handle that comes with it:

I´m a big fan of French rations

Me too I could live on them for a while. Soups are mixed bag...I have tried 4 types so far.Two went into the bin. Pumpkin soup and "Jardiniére de légumes".
When I opened the "Jardiniére" pouch it smelled like animal dry food or something like that.
My favourite is "Chicken curry soup". Few days ago I needed a hot soup and I ate the "Mushroom soup". It was delicious with some hot ground red pepper of course

I enjoy the French rations but I would say that I am only a big fan of the ration entree's nothing else in the RCIR is really exceptional to me. The entree's are probably in my opinion the best tasting / freshest of any countries I have tried. They do however need seasoning as you have said, add plenty of pepper and they taste nice!

There are things I like in French rations but also things I don't like.
Good things: It's for 24 hours,compact in size,good variety,fruit jelly,chocolate,cocoa drink,muesli,soup,stove...

Things I don't like: fruit nougat, pumpkin soup, mint tee,
I like that the RCIR is old style.Canned food,Esbit stove,no high-tech.
The cocoa drink is very tasty just don't use too much water.I use a coffee cup and ca. 100ml of water (I think it's about 3 oz.)
My favourite drink mix is cocoa drink+1 coffee+1 sugar and some water. I like strong tasting coffee and cocoa.

Lentils w. sausages is my favourite The only entree that has received 5 out 5 so far. Well, we are different but it's good. In the field I would give You any other entree if You wanted to get rid of the Lentils w. sausages
Menu 14 was my first RCIR after 15 years! I had it 2 years ago but didn't take pics of the Lentils w. saus.
The menu has changed.In January 2010 it was Lentils w. sausages :

What's the Farmer Hotpot like - cos I just cracked an RCIR tonight myself- and I LOVED the Boeuf en salade. Fancied trying one since I saw Flankertanker's review -

The tuna in spicy sauce is also pretty good...

Thanks for sharing! So far, I've been very impressed with the French rations that I've tried. Were the crackers still pretty fresh-tasting? I've heard that since they aren't retort-packaged they can go stale far before the other items get anywhere near staled or inedible.
