1982 Goodies! :D

Post by steve1989 »

Back from a long hiatus, I present some exciting items from a recently opened Cadillac Food's 1982 mre!

Check out the strawberries - never seen em before! I did a taste test and they were still good but the general idea of eating something that's 30 years old kept me from eating them all... sorry.

The cookies were just like in Kman's original 1982 test on the Pork Patty menu thet everyone's hopefully seen... yeah they are melted together and I managed to eat 2 bites but JUST LIKE KMAN SAID something in the flavor just warned me off! Hah!

As for the caramels, they literally smelled like a strange motor oil that even plagued the smell of the Beechies! (Adding those Beechies to my little MRE shelf collection).

As for the photos... I bought a new digital camera so they are better looking then my older reviews from 2010-2011. (Check RCW Dating on Other Ration Thread... I got classic RCW photos there from 1989 Rafcos!)

Bonus Picture... my Nut Cake collection! I'm thinking of selling them soon online though because I want to buy some RCW's or something to do some more reviews on!

Cool pics! Those cookies are the Gorilla cookies too. Steve, I am betting if the packaging is still intact (No pin holes) on those nut cakes they are still good to eat and they are pretty tasty.

I had a friend who was in the USAF based at RAF Lakenheath (UK) back in the 1980s. I often got MREs from him when we met up ( a real treat for an 11 year old!). Those freeze dried strawberries were just the coolest thing and tasted great!

Steve1989,

thank you for that very interesting review :D , that kind of "CADILLAC"-MREs remind me of very good childhood times.

The freeze dried STRAWBERRIES were the best out of the freeze dried fruits (I remember also PEACHES, PEARS, FRUIT MIX). Usually those ones do not get bad, so I´m suprised about the pics after reconstituting them  :( !

The CARAMELS look funny :D , fresh ones were really fine!

I still have a couple of those "CADILLACS" in my basement, but I think I will never open them, they are fine collectibles for me... :D
