Today i am pleased to present a
2010 Italian Armed Forces Module B/Red Ration
(Part 1 Unboxing)
Here it is
The Bag is thinner than MRE packaging but very tough, its metal on the inside, and unless you get a cut its very very hard to tear by hand

- This is one heavy ration, it is for 24 hours so not overly heavy, but you would notice carting 5 of these around

- Easy to see why these are so rare, less than 30,000 rations made by the 10th month of the year
Back Side has the menu in three languages, Italian, English(labeled GB) and French.
Inside you have three boxes one for each meal

- Lunch Box is the tallest and heaviest
Three languages menu is on each box as well
Close up, Menu B meal boxes
Part 2 will be Breakfast

Continued from the unboxing in part one, today we will consume the breakfast box.
2010 Italian Module B Red (part 2) Breakfast

- Zoom of the menu in English so i don't have to type it
Lets take a closer look at everything.
Many rations seem to have paperwork of some type.
On the USA's rations everything is usually printed on the box/bag/pouch.
So when i see instruction sheets in rations, i expect one of two things;
-mostly unlabeled items(nutrition servings prep etc)
or
-consumer items (they are already labeled)

- You should avoid direct contact with the flame!

- Accessories

- Tools

- Food and Drink, salt pack not shown

Lets Eat!

- 2 Apricot Jams and a Chocolate Cereal Bar

- Looks good, its a nice melty chocolate it almost feels like silk in you hand
This was more like a candy bar than a cereal bar.
Soft and chewy, good dark chocolate flavor mixed with banana.

- Very good
Next up the jams, they did not put cracker in the breakfast box so i used some MRE crackers.

- No smell at all

- Looks good, its jelly like, smooth and clear

- Good flavor, if you didn't tell me it was Apricot, i wouldn't know, but it was good
Very Good! not the size of an american breakfast but flavor and quality were very high and made up for that.

After that i was thirsty, good thing we have plenty to drink in this box
That includes the infamous alcohol ration everyone is always talking about

- Tea Powder with Sugar, Cappuccino Powder, Sugar Packet, Cordiale Alcohol ration
Lets start with the tea, i have a bottle of water ill use to make it cold.

- Tea Powder with sugar in it

- Says whats in it, but not how much water to use...

- No o2 scavengers to be found any where, so the tea power soaked up the moisture from inside the ration
Not bad, think i used a little too much water, defiantly a "British style" tea

- Mixed very quickly and easily compared to mre beverage powders
Now for the cappucino, since this is an Italian ration i have high hopes

- I put both in a bottle added some water and shook it
Very good, not too sweet, nice coffee flavor and the foam was surprising to say the least it was actually solid foam

- Wow it even has foam, i was not dissapointed
And Finally the Cordiale

- Not in a bottle?!?!
Its Grappa

- 40% by vol., Spirits. warms you up
So overall a great breakfast although a little small to some.
I could have used some crackers for the jam but other wise everything was good or better.
It seems they put all the accessories in this box also, so we will get to them as we need during lunch and supper

Thirty Minutes later i smelled the water and it had almost no odor, so i took a sip.

It was a sip of poision, i spit it out all over the place.
So i went back to the instruction sheet for a closer look and what did i see

I dumped that in to a 5 gallon jug and boiled up some water instead.
Now i needed something to get the taste of poison from my mouth

OK enough small stuff it took forever to get some water and Im getting hungry.
Time to open a can, Pasta Fagioli first, i actually cook this for myself from time to time.

- I ended up skipping the crackers for this part since it was a pasta dish
The seal was fine, can opened with a pleasant smell
It looked good

- Heated
It tasted good, a little salt and pepper would help, and its not like fresh homemade, but very nice for canned

- super close up

That last part was very nice, i waited some until i had the next bit
Canned turkey

- Braiiinnnsss....

- Juice removed, cut in half, it smells very good and you can see some carrots in there
Need some Crackers to go with this

- All broken, but still crunchy, a nice slight vanilla flavor, not really sweet or savory just in the middle

- Very Good meat flavor, like a sauce-less meatloaf, or the filling from a stuffed pepper with no rice, or a type of meat loaf hash hybrid. Not spicy or salty just taste whats in it, and that's good in this case , i want some more, anyone know where to get this in the USA?
Tons of food in the lunch box for this ration. I should have taken one of he packs of crackers and used it for breakfast.
All the components so far have been very good quality, breakfast was small but lunch is huge, i would like another drink mix but i cant complain about much else in this meal
Part 4 Supper is next
