Is Peanut Butter to your country what Vegemite is to mine?

In the USA Vegemite is a very unique flavor, not many are familiar with it and its strange to most, for lack of a better word.

I have heard that peanut butter like this to other places, and that something like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich is some kind of nightmare, where here it is commonly considered comfort food.

Whats it like where you are?

In Japan, I think that it is miso.
Miso is the food which fermented the soybean.
We make miso soup, miso dengaku, etc.
Japanese love miso!

Oh! It is oden :!:
It is surprise that the United States has oden :!: :!:
At all the convenience stores in Japan, if we become winter, we can buy hot oden.

It can eat only by heating.

When heating with hot water
Heat for 5 minutes with the boiling water in a pan without opening a bag.

When heating in a pan
Move contents in a bag to a pan, and heat them.

When warming with a microwave oven
Move contents in a bag to a deep dish, cover with a food wrap, and heat for 5 minutes (in the case of 500W) with a microwave oven.

laughing_man, do you know if civilians in Japan are permitted to own JGSDF rations? Also are the rations made under special contract, or are the ration items available in any food store as civilian food? Thanks!

I think that it is a gray area.
There is no law which forbids a civilian from having ration.
However, SDF does not allow a civilian to eat the ration which is equipment of SDF.
(When it is not emergencies, such as an earthquake.)
And SDF does not interfere about whether a soldier actually eats the ration provided to the soldier.
Even if it transfers to a civilian, without a soldier eating ration, SDF does not complain.

All Japanese rations are the special items for SDF.
The supermarket does not sell them.
However, since the number of rations is insufficient, an division and a regiment buy the rations of a consumer product for training with their budget.
