Post by mreheater72 » Sat Nov 12, 2011 1:55 pm

Hi guys,

here I presented the U.S.NAVY BATTLE RATION for the first time:

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3848&hilit=grafenwoehr#p28427

A short time ago I bought an empty :( NAVY BATTLE RATION at eBay Germany :D . See the pics:

The empty NAVY BATTLE RATION is a nice collectible :) , but a full would be better :) .

I think we only have one reference pic of this ration. Are there anymore out there?

Yeah....its the same one MREHeater72 posted unfortunately. I guess it would be interesting to find a photo(s) of what the contents looked like inside the can. :?

These were WAY before my time in the US Navy, but If i had to guess, I'd say they were stored all over the ship, at General Quarters sites (Battle Stations).
You couldn't break for chow, so you ate at your GQ station.
Later on, In my era, the cooks made sandwiches (2 slices bread, 1 slice balogna, no mayo/condiments.. :x ) and every station sent someone to the Galley with a cardboard box to carry the 'food'.
Not very good, but better than nothing.
We had MCI's, but they were for Emergencies Only.
