Tube Foods

Post by Name_not_found » Mon Aug 29, 2011 8:12 pm

What countries use tube foods and what foods can i find in tubes?
Vegemite, fruit paste, sweetened condensed milk from the Australian rations are the first i have seen personally.

Other than a picture of the the full tube i cant find much information, would anyone be willing to open a tube and share some pics or opinions.

Thanks
NNF

http://www.thinkgeek.com/stuff/41/squeez-bacon.html

This would be good in smaller containers, or tubes.

Oh.Grandpa.
biscuits brown, you rock!

Hmmmm, 595g for $7.99 seems like a viable price!

Has anyone tried this?
If not, please, please, somebody step up! :)

I'd be particularly interested to know how it tastes on MRE bread and crackers.

I guffawed at:
Each serving is as healthy as real bacon
And was delighted at:
•Shelf Life of 12 years.
Once it's opened, can it be resealed instead of being refrigerated? I would assume it would still have to be used up quickly, but if it lasts a week or two out of the fridge, it would be perfect disaster/emergency morale food. :)
It seems less messy than canned/tactical bacon.
The important thing is the spices.

I hate to burst your bubble but, being a long time buyer from ThinkGeek I remember that product being an April fools joke. In fact try adding it to your cart.

Not only do the Australian CR1M have tubes of vegemite and condensed milk, we can also buy them in larger versions in supermarkets. Vegemite is virtually indestructible. I don't think it can go off. Some people keep it in the fridge but I always keep it in the cupboard and am pretty sure after 12 month open it tastes the same as when opened. My Uncle used to have a hut in some really rough country near where I grew up, and it was always stocked up with Vegemite and cans of beans. Sometimes when we went out there hunting we could not read the use by date and none of us ever got sick from eating any of it.

Yes it never fails to bring on a bacon-related chuckle that one.

Sadly though, the wunderkind at Thinkgeek seem to have basic problems with the calender

They should take the april fool tag line out. It spoils the effect, except of course in april

TN it caught me out too when I first saw it
