I just want to say Hi to everyone here as this would be my 1st post on MRE info.

A little introduction about me.... I like to prepare for emergency situations, flashlights, knifes, muti tools, guns and stuff.

Well, I joined up here to learn more about MRE and the civilian counter part. I like to take the time here to say thanks to the people who made this source of info for everyone. :D As within the last few day I have learned a lot about MREs then I ever have.

Ok, so I figured out what I want to get but I not sure if I should get everything I want to storage/eating with Menu C, USGI regular stuff or half/half(some fresh Menu C and some older USGI) If possible I personally like to get the best value for my buck, so USGI seems to be it.

I am trying to listen to some opinion on what you like more? Currently right now I am trying to weight out the best options on which to get.

From what I gather it seems like Treesuit is the guy to talk to buy some regular MRE, so how do u guys buy stuff from him?

Thanks for letting me to join this forum with liked minded people.

For me, USGI is the better option, hands down. I got burnt when I bought a case of Menu "C". They contents didn't match the posted menu (either the prior or current one). There wasn't a lot of variation amongst the side dishes (mexican corn / pineapple). The cost of the case plus shipping far exceeds anything I've ever paid for a case of USGI MREs (typically $50 a case at a gun show).

Any attempt at contacting the seller was futile. I had called and sent emails, but not a single response, even though they had definitely misrepresented the product that I had received.

Someuser,

Hey if you can find the PM button that will let you send a private PM to me or just get a hold of Kman, the web guru who runs the site. He's helpful. :D

Welcome to the forums, Someuser. Personally, I like the USGI MREs the best. I think the guys and gals at Natick who put the menus together do the best job of balancing nutrition and mixing components together. But while the military MREs are my favorite, they're also the hardest to come by - you either have to know someone who has them or buy them off eBay and hope they're ok.

If I wanted a guaranteed source of MREs (and if you're in the US, which I see you aren't), I'd go with any of the civilian brands - Sure-Paks, aPacks, Eversafes (update on them coming soon...they're good now), or Menu Cs. The latest versions of the Eversafes put them in lead for the most calories per MRE. But really - any of the name-brand MREs should be fine - just shop around for price and free shipping. For Canada, the Meal Kit Supply Canada MREs are really good - they're just like the Sure-Pak 12s but with a better menu variety.

kman, thanks for the tip about the meal kit supply, but I think those are too expensive($130/case??? ). Well being in Canada doesn't stop me from buy American goods, as I got a PO box in the state.

Treesuit, thanks for the head up, I'll pm u right away!

hannonmc, well I am just going to stick by USGI MRE from now on, and will use freeze dried food for long term storage. Menu C is just not worth the extra cost for a few more years of storage.

There is a guy on ebay who sells the mealsupplykitcanada for 75$ plus 16 shipping.......$90.00 total is reasonable imho.
