i need a good source of mres.. to ship to japan!
Hi, great forums, by the way. I'm glad someone finally started one up.
I currently live in Japan and mres are somewhat hard to get here (especially new ones).Anyone know what a good source of mres are? I ordered some on ebay , but the person I buy them from (3 times) has stopped selling them! It's hard getting someone to ship them here.
Anyone have any ideas?

Hi Doggar. Welcome to the forums! I think the best suggestion I would have would be to keep checking on ebay. Even if the auction says they will only ship the United States, it might be worth a message to the seller asking if he'll make an exception for you - especially if you're looking to buy more than one case. I think a lot of people on ebay avoid international transactions just because they don't want the extra complexity - but maybe if you're nice enough about it, the seller will work with you.
Another suggestion I have (if you haven't tried it already) would be to use Ebay's "advanced search" function to limit your MRE search to either auctions in Japan or auctions willing to ship internationally.
If you speak Japanese (and I'm guessing you do seeing as you're living there), I can point you in the direction of a couple of Japanese rations forums where they might be able to provide some more local help.
Out of curiosity, how much does it cost to ship a case of MREs from the US to Japan?

Though I live in Hong Kong , I'd like to give a refernce price for shipping .kman wrote:Out of curiosity, how much does it cost to ship a case of MREs from the US to Japan?
It would be about 30 bucks for 6 packs of MRE ... Jesus , that is really expensive ! So I think taking MREs as the collector items are much more reasonable then eating them !

mres overseas
Well actually I have ordered about 5 cases already, but the problem was that the person that sold them to me then stopped selling! so, I am always looking for a reliable person. Mres sell big here- if you can get a case of really new ones, some japanese guy will pay 120-150 dollars for a case. there are some nutty 'collectors' here who actually have Mre tasting parties. I got some german mres and sold them to a guy for 40 dollars-- per meal! According to their parties, the german and french were the most popular, except for that dark german bread-- which is really healthy actually and has lots of fiber.
Anyway, to ship a box of mres here, it cost about 45 dollars surface which took about 1-2 months to get here. The trick is just getting someone who doesn't mind shipping usps which forbids mres because of the matches.
If you ship it surface, it goes by boat anyway, not air.

When you mentioned MRE tasting parties in Japan, that reminded me of some pics I saw at this one Japanese MRE site:

tasting parties
I've seen that site too-- the guy who bought german mres from me was at that party, and he invited me to one this year. Couldn't make it though. If anyone has rare mres they might try to contact those people, as they will pay big bucks for them. The guy told me that if someone found new german mres, they would pay 5000 yen (over 50 dollars) per meal!
Do any americans do this kind of tasting party? I feel thats kind of an unusual hobby, but each their own. Mres would also be popular to some people like me who are intersted in having long lasting survival food in case of an earthquake.

I wonder if they would consider the "Meal, Cold Weather" rations as rare? I've been looking for those things for years and finally managed to find some. That's the newer MCW, not the older Ration, Cold Weather (RCW).
As for tasting parties, I haven't heard of any of those in the US. Then again, this is the only MRE/rations-based site I've seen in the US so maybe there's not as much interest in that stuff as in Japan. I mean, heck, I've even seen pics of Japanese rations magazines - not just the occasional Maxim article on MREs, but whole magazines devoted to the stuff.
