U.N. Forces Ration

Post by laughing_man »

I have three U.N. forces rations.
These are manufactured in France and used in Lebanon.

I opened the OCCIDENTAL.
The list of contents is printed on the box.
However, some items in a box were missing.

Main meals are "Cassoulet" and "Lentils and Vegetable Stew".
It is not so tasty...

Moisture of strawberry jam is lost and seemed to be the hard rubber block.

This cracker was very hard...
A tuna and all the instant drinks are also the products of Spain.

Actually is the end of cold war and the end of need to store hugh amounts of rations for +10 years (EPas up to 20 years).

Europa is reducing troops, the shelf life of rations is down to 18 month (Gruppenverpflegung) as ration now are not made to be stored, they are made to be used instandly. So they can now use regular, civilan made ready-to-eat-items

yes, housil, the end of the Cold War mentality has changed a lot in the military field, I totally agree with you

but every time I see more countries that the packaging of rations is simply commercial. I think the reasons are economic today:
.- acquisition faster and at lower cost
.- Quick-change facility provider if necessary
.- not need a packing plant and pay the government specified that cost

and where is the wonder of looking at the package itself each ration from different countries?

in spanish ration I have found a tea bag in commercial container

make us boicot!

greetings to all :D

Hi,
you're right, the armies tend to use more and more standard items in theiy rations. In France the meals in flat cans used in the RCIR's were sold in every grocery or supermarket. Now they are almost 100% replaced by plastic microwavable container and it's almost impossible to find canned meal in RCIR style container.
