What does the average MRE weigh?

Just trying to get an idea of an average weight for either the curent U.S. military or civilian MRE's. How about the FSR's (First Strike Rations)?

I know weight will vary slightly according to actual contents, but I'm just looking for an average. 1 pound? More? Less?

The only figure I could find on the Internet was 1.75 lbs for current military issue MRE's, but that seems a bit heavy to me.

Well, the main entrees weigh 8 ounces, and the sides weigh 5 ounces, so you are at 13 ounces for the 2 main items. A wheat bread is 2 ounces, while crackers are just over 1 ounce. Desserts average about 2 ounces. Spreads run from 1 ounce to 1.5 ounces for Peanut Butter. So my guess is that the various combinations of food components average around a pound or just over. Throw in the accessory packs, spoon, packaging, etc...., and I would estimate between 1.25 & 1.5 pounds total.

First Strike sandwiches run between 2.5 & 3.5 ounces. The bars are around 2.5 ounces. I've never obtained a full FSR, so I can't say what the total weight might be.

The lightest dark brown MRE in my collection is Menu No. 4, BEEF SLICES IN BARBECUE SAUCE from SOUTHERN PKG. AND STORAGE CO., INC., date of pack about 1983. The weight is 0,435 kg, about 0,96 lbs.

The heaviest tan MRE is Menu No. 5 CHICKEN BREAST from THE WORNICK COMPANY, date of pack 2005. The weight is 0,834 kg, about 1,84 lbs.
