French RCIR

Post by kman »

Thanks to a trade with another forum member (you know who are!), I finally got my hands on a French RCIR. I haven't had a chance to open it up yet, but my first impression upon seeing it was that it was a lot bigger than I thought it would be. I guess that's good seeing as it's supposed to contain a full day's worth of food, but I was still surprised. Here are some pics of it along with one of our favorite MREs for comparison:

According to the box, that one is pork, lamb and beef stew. That doesn't sound too bad to me. I've had rabbit and goose; and, didn't mind either of those, too. I guess it's all a matter of taste.

Let us know if there really is a white flag included in the ration.

If anyone is really serious about getting some of these rations, here is a link to a fellow selling 12 of them.

I have no idea what shipping would be on these; nor do I know if they are all one menu. Perhaps someone whose French is better than mine can tell us. It might make a good group buy. I'd kick in for a couple of them.

ETA: I just reread the auction. It states "avec différents menus....". Unless my nearly forgotten French is totally failing me, that translates to "with different menues...".

What we really need is someone who is visiting France who's willing to carry back about 50lbs worth of French rations. That would definitely save on shipping...I mean, as long as you already had your own $500 plane ticket. :-)
