Dark brown MRE from an unknown packer

Post by mreheater72 » Mon Mar 09, 2009 2:40 pm

Hi guys,

today I "found" a dark brown MRE :D , due to the appearance I guess it is from 1984 or 1985, which is packed by a for me unknown company, even after a Google research I can’t identify the company :?: .

As you can see at the following two pics it is packed by:

H. T. FOOD PRODUCTS INC.
BRONX, N. Y. 10462

I know the following packers dark brown MREs (respectively their different notation):

CADILLAC PRODUCTS, INC.

CINPAC INC.

CINPAC INC. MILITARY PKG. DIVISION

RAFCO FREEZE DRY, INC. MRE DIVISION (is RAFCO the abbreviation of RIGHT AWAY FOODS CORPORATION?)

RIGHT AWAY FOODS

RIGHT AWAY FOODS CORP.

RIGHT AWAY FOODS CORPORATION

SO-PAK-CO, INC.

SOUTHERN PKG. AND STORAGE CO., INC.

But H. T. FOOD PRODUCTS INC. I have never seen before :!: :?:

The company names seem to change pretty rapidly. The company is now called Freedom NY, Inc. The H.T. was for Henry Thomas Food Products, they were probably privately held, which makes it difficult to get data.

The contract to produce MREs was terminated by the government for non-performance, they were unable to demonstrate progress towards fulfilling the contract. You can see the court document here; docs.law.gwu.edu/asbca/decision/pdf2001/43965.pdf

They are still fighting it however and have set up this website specifically to tell their side of the story; http://freedomny.com/homepage.htm

If you know your accounting, the pdf is an interesting read. I can see why the company feels that it has been screwed by the government. On the other hand, they were obviously too undercapitalized to be in that business.

Big Galloot, thanks for the very interesting information :D ! If I understand right, so that MRE is more scarce than others!?

I can remember that in a former ebay auction someone sold an Accessory Packet packed by Freedom NY, Inc. and I´m quite sure that I have saved the picture if it, but I can´t find it :( !
