Newbie Question - exactly what IS "beefsteak"

Post by BackwoodsPundit » Mon Oct 03, 2005 3:06 pm

One of the meals I have not tried yet is the beefsteak in mushroom gravy.

is it like a salisbury steak hamburger type thingy?

Hi BackwoodsPundit. That's what it looks like - salisbury steak. Here's a picture of it I found on longlifefood.com:

You have to be careful when you say "beefsteak" - that word has meant different things over the years. First, it was "beefsteak" as in "beefsteaky patty, chunked and formed, with grill marks" (or whatever the long description was). This was basically a beef patty - no fancy gravy - meant to be eaten on wheat bread like a pseudo-hamburger. Then later, they "improved" it and changed the name to "beef patty".

But "Beef Steak w/Mushroom Gravy" has always been around as an entree. This is the entree pictured above.

Today i had meal number 8 from 2003 Beef Patty.

I must say that the smell of the Beef Patty reminded me like Dog food. And it almost looked like it :P

But with the BBQ Sauce and the Hot Sauce it was ok. The only problem was that i did eat the two wheat snack breads with the cheese spread (yummi!), so i had to eat the beef without anything else.

After a couple MRE's my tip for eating them: don't take a look at your meal - just eat it and it will be great! 8)

The Nacho Cheese Pretzels were very good as always - they should sell them here in germany!

They don't sell those nacho cheese pretzels in Germany? They go by the brand name "Combos" here in the US:

Right now I keep a few bags of combos in my car just in case :) I wonder what the shelf life is on those.. i know I won't buy the MRE combos from Longlife - for that price I could buy 5 bags of combos I think ;)

How long are Combos good for? I'm sure the pretzel part will last for a while. As for the cheese part...I think that just depends on what color you want your cheese to be when you eat it. :-)

I hate those combos, they taste like vomit to me. I am serious, let one sit in your mouth a bit and you will taste the vomit, or atleast I can.

And that beefsteak pic kman, that floors me. That is a great way to make Alpo look palatable...LMFAO! I like how they add the garden fresh tomatos and broccoli...ROFLMAO! That is like taking a two bit whore and dressing her up like a nun...
