good deal or not your opinions please

Post by bishopmarine » Fri Mar 14, 2008 10:26 am

okay i just got in my shipment from www.navy-nex.com i did not have to pay taxes on it and shipping was free. my order total was $159.24 what i ordered is below.

ark III mainstay survival kit
12 boxes of seven oceans 500g rations
2 cases of mainstay water packs 60 packs per case
1 box of survival food tabs
10 mainstay 2400 calorie rations

im sure most of you are familiar with the above items. the food tabs are described below

Twelve ultra high calorie tabs, taken throughout the day supply a considerable portion of the calorie requirements of an active adult, enabling you to stretch your food stores and survive for months. In case of ‘holing’ up, you can survive for even longer periods. Survival Tabs are so completely digestible that 99% of their calorie content and 97% of their protein is available for use by the body, unlike most food products where 30 to 60 percent of the theoretical calorie content leaves the body unused! Twelve Tabs daily provide more than enough protein to sustain essential body tissues and 100% of the US RDA for 15 vitamins and minerals: A, D, E, Thiamin (B1), Riboflavin (B2), Niacin, Pyridoxine (B6), Panthenol, Folic Acid, B12 Plus, Iron, Potassium, Zinc, Manganese and 20% of Calcium. more. Container fits within a GI canteen pouch and includes a plastic bag to carry the tabs, letting you use the container as a canteen. Contains: 180, 3.9gm tabs. Serving Size: 12 tabs providing: 240 Calories, Protein- 4gm, Fat-12gm, Sodium-140mg, Iron-18mg. Derived from non-fat milk solids, sucrose, and vegetable oils. Approximate 10 year shelf life. [13oz/369gm]

180 food tabs per bottle.

The Mainstay bars are always good to have around. I don't know that I'd want to have to live off them for more than a day, but they'd be better than nothing.

As for those survival tabs, I don't know... It sounds like they'd do the trick of keeping you alive but I'm guessing you'd feel like you were starving the whole time. Still...better than actually dying.

I say you need to try to live for a week off that stuff and see how the experiment goes!

hopefully these will never be used. i got them solely for a survival situation. i have these stored away from my house in another location. in case i need to leave my home area i know that i have a cache of food if needed. i would not want to live off them for a week. but it does make a good back up plan.

Fasting

There are specialists out there who specialize in fasting. More than 3 days fasting is about the limit for most people.

better store tons of mres or even better (because the are smaller and have a longer livetime thatn the pills) Image (for example)

i dont know with the pills. in the german EPA light there are fizzy vitamin tablets in it. thats the reason why the "use by" date stands on it. without the tablets it would have a self life by minimun 5 years...

I'm just saying it might be a good idea to try some out so you know what you're in for if you ever have to use them. Of course, they're better than nothing, but at least you can prepare yourself psychologically if you know it's going to be rough.

Water
I keep the five gallon (20L) water container I got from Brigade Quartermaster and rotate the water every six months. It's cheaper in the long run and fill the essentail need first. Water Water Water. Unless you have well water or live near a lake unlike us city dwellers. I think its easier
than trying to purify the water to last 5 years.

It's always good to have variety. You might consider some freeze dried items. This is a link to a place that has excellent prices on Mountain House products.
