Ok, this one was bad. When I bought it I knew the outer bag was compromised, but the meal was still protected in the inner bag, right?

So I thought I would give it a go. The inner bag was stuck to the inside of the outer bag and it had a foul smell right away. But hey, some of the old LRP’s have a funky smell but taste fine. Once I added the boiling water the stink got WAY worse. And didn’t get any better after letting it. Now I’m brave, heck I eat 40 year old cheese, but this one got me. I just couldn’t. It did make a huge pile of food and I wish it were edible.
Thanks for looking.

I was really hoping this would be a-okay. Such a shame! Good on you for not trying it haha.

Yeah, once I saw the pic I could tell immediately the mylar/foil packaging was damaged. If the seal is broken unfortunately the food is not safe to consume, this happens in a matter of days or even hours.
The "vintage" Mountain House logos & colors, the packaging brings back trail memories, when you saw that stuff it meant you were on a REAL backcountry adventure. 20 mile day, and that was the "reward", FD crap with too much salt & MSG. Makes my feet hurt just looking at it.
