I've seen a few of those. At first, I thought it was taped up because it had been opened and then resealed but now I'm not so sure. I'm guessing that it probably came that way from the factory and for whatever reason, they were trying a new way of sealing the boxes when that particular entree went through.

I have one just the same. Sopako, dated 4222, Clam chowder. None of the others in the same case were like it, and it doesn't appear to have been opened, just the tape added.

No problem.

It's just a "band-aid" for malfunctioning packaging machinery. Happens all the time. Just make sure the retort pouch isn't bloated. There, you would have a real problem. :)

It could be a little bit of all the things we've guessed.

Reading the topic I remembered the MRE I ate last week. It had a 'band-aid' too. So I dug it up from the old paper trash and here are the results.

luckily I opened it up on the other side. So I carefully cut the 'band-aid' and it opened up (the sides didn't stick together anymore). Apparently it was glued since the cardboard was kind of torn.

Contributing to the mistery.....

As we fixed all the Xmas lights to our house (Griswolds  ), we deceided for a "quick" 2002 dinner.

For Mrs. Housil a chicken with salsa w/mexican rice. Veg. crackers w/ jalapeno cheese. One of her "to-die-for-favorites".

For me a (No.1 delicious) beef patty and a left over wild rice pilaf, but see

Another retaped container straight out of the bag

I´ll keep the shortbread cookies and the filed prezels for a "to-die" at night
