2009 MRE Menu #4 Maple Sausage Patty

Post by steve1989 »

Hey guys,

It's been a while - where to start in an ocean of ration photo sets? How about with the first year for Maple Sausage Patty.

It had a transitional menu lineup. Still had leftovers of Salsa Verde from 2008s last year of Vomelet. I guess they had to use 'em up somehow. So they go well with the crackers - like field-tortilla crackers and salsa.

Chocolate poptart was not stale or dry, but center had an oddly moist permeation through the crust. Good enough!

That first year for Maple Patty was a different recipe. Had 9 grams of sugar or something like that. The newest version is only 2g sugar - relying on the maple muffin top and table syrup for sweetness. Both components are not in this 2009 menu.

This first year for #4 Maple Patty has that Cinnamon Scone and Apple Butter. Both are best warmed up in the FRH w/ the main. Use the scone as a base, layer the maple patty next, then top with warm apple butter. More protein and meatier texture than the modern patty, the first version was the best. A prevalent maple sauce that was thicker & sweeter.

Apple cider - who else misses it in acc packs?

French vanilla coffee always sucks. Too sweet, weak, cheap, and artificial.

The blueberry oatmeal is always a treat. Stuff lasts a long time too! No spoilage.

A great ration - this menu lineup was only for 2009 and it is one to search for!!

Thanks for checking this one out,

Okay to the pictures. Apologies they are not in order.

I prefer 2009 to the modern.

Hey Smitty thanks for checking this one out! Good to know you like those blueberry oatmeals. Those things are addictive - one that is even tastier (dare I say) is Backpackers Pantry brand blueberry oatmeal. That stuff is HIGH in fat and sweeter too - perfect for cold weather outings. Been fixin to order more of that stuff..

Funny I always avoided the Maple Sausage Patty when grabbing meals from a case lol. Just never pictured it as being legit sausage.

But I do love the blueberry oatmeal. Always a nice snack to have in my work truck.

The salsa with the crackers kind of freaks me out. I mean, yeah, salsa with eggs is one thing...but salsa with my muffin top...or pop tart...or oatmeal...no thanks. But I guess you could always pocket it and eat it for a snack later.

Good point, it's really the odd man out on this menu lineup. But perhaps like you said, it could be a snack for after breakfast and before lunch.

I do feel the scone was pretty decent if heated up and apple butter thrown in. Wish those were both still around. Not sure of apple butters last year, but 2009 was for cinnamon scone

You have got to try maple sausage patty and heat the maple muffin & table syrup with it and mix them all up. Quite the MRE breakfast

Makes no sense for MRE's to not try to go meatier with these patty products eventually. The soldiers deserve better then some weird soy protein product for sure (I still love the #4 all in all though haha!).

Thanks for sharing Steve!

The blueberry oatmeal has always been my favorite side in an MRE, and that scone looks awesome!

I may just do that.
I do have a #17 on a display shelf in basement.
Mainly because I figured I wouldn’t eat it.
