i have a question. i got the DEHYDRATED EGG MIX. i came in a big alu-bag where 3 plastic bags were in. now i used one. 2 left. on the alu-gab it says: "use immediately - do not store boil-in-bag pouches."
question: why? is it because it has to be stored dark or because it has to be stored dry ---> is the boil-in-bag leaky????
it would be a shame if i have to throw the 2 bags away....

That's really cool - it's like a giant FRH full of dehydrated eggs. Now you just need to throw in some dehydrated cheese and some dehydrated ham and you'd be set for one very tasty breakfast. Oh...and don't forget the big bottle of Tobasco sauce.
I don't know why they want you to use all the bags right away. Did the three bags come in a box or where they vacuum-sealed into a can? Maybe it really is a sunlight issue.
That bag doesn't look like it was vacuum-sealed. But another thing Mountain House/Oregon Freeze Dry does is remove the oxygen from the containers and replace it with nitrogen to make the products store longer. Maybe they did that here.
So maybe the bags are good for 15+ years if unopened or 5+ years if you've opened the bags. I'm just making up numbers here, but maybe you see where I'm going with this. I'm guessing the stuff will still be good if you just but it back in the bag/box - but maybe it won't last for really huge periods of time.
Maybe, what they meant was that once the mixture was rehydrated (and cooked, where applicable,) any leftovers should not be stored in the bag that the dehydrated mixture came in?
I think the label is saying that you should cook all 3 clear bags after opening the outer bag, but I can't see how a few days delay would hurt. How long have you had it open?
I wish I lived close enought tyo help you dispose of them, too. I'd make the mother of all Denver omelets.
well - close enough is relativ.... about 6000 km i guess ? (just kidding)
its open for nearly 2 weeks now.
i cant really understand why to throw the bags away. normally the bags where the egg mix is in are proofed i guess?! and i store it in the basement where its mostly dry and dark and cool.
but on the other side - when the damp ingress in the bag - you should see that the egg mix is going to agglutinate - what do you say about that?
i think this becomes a never ending story....

Hot Damn!! GI eggs & hash browns! I can almost taste those cold little saucage links that came with them in the field via mermite cans (along with the cold toast). But then again, everything was usually cold once we sat down to eat......
Sorry guys for the (4) repeated posts --- kept getting some kind of "General Error" and "problem with email" message everytime I hit submit and there was no way of telling whether the post was being accepted or not......
