Un-effing-believable. My first thought is "What kind of IDIOT spends that much on a single ration?" Sure, they're rare, but they're not *that* rare.

I gave up on the Italian ration pack when it hit $42. To think it went for four times that just makes my head hurt.

The seller said that the winner was a "serious collector from Japan" who inquired once about shipping costs to Japan, then was unheard from, but then outbid everyone in the final thirty seconds and took both the Italian one and the German one.
Check those Japanese ration websites in a month or two and see if the Italian version shows up!
Molto costo!

It's Wornick...but it's not Mil-Spec or the new Eversafe....
...WHAT IS IT?
One of several from the same seller on eBay:

Is this some of the LongLifeFood meals? Or something else altogether?

Hi CaptBob. Someone recently sent me a picture of one of these MREs. That person opened it up and the contents were from 1999/2000. I'm guessing that it was just another version of Wornick's civilian MREs. Maybe a fore- or post- runner of the Mil-Spec brand.
Here are the pics the guy sent me:

Bidding just ended on this:

Forty-one dollars? (plus shipping)
For fifteen-year-old MREs?
(sigh)

Here's one for the books. This seller is offering several auctions for original menu MREs.

They might be good for a collector; but, I would hesitate to consume most of the meals. The sad part is they are touting them as being edible. "This Producty has been held under controlled temparature and humidity conditions and should NOT be considered over age because od date of pack and the date of pack should not be the controlling factor in determining assuance and utilization of the product. Further refrigeration is not required." They may be; but, I would not want to be the one that had to prove that.
