Top picture is the inside of a prototype MRE - I cannot believe they were originally packed in metal cans!! How neat is that?! Amazing stuff.

Well, that is it for today - wish me luck I am going through what i thought was 90 more pages but it is actually only 40 more so maybe I am nearing the end of this particular thread's photo content and will follow up with as much info on each picture as I can.

Now the information gathering may take a little longer than actually finding/saving/reposting the photos - but ask away on anything you wanna know about and I will give info on those particular photos first.

Thanks so much everyone!

-Steve

Hey Steve1989, I think I figured out what the "pollution abatement by conversion of wastepaper to purified glucose sugar." It was probably the same group who pitched the Pentagon's "Franistan Plan" to make crankcase oil edible after 12,000 miles-----M*A*S*H* season 3 episode "Iron Guts Kelly" that one always cracked me up!

Hey Rationtin! :D

I was just about to go to bed (uploading a review for Youtube - my name on there is Steve1989 MREinfo) and saw your post!

Oh that is so crazy - it's like taking trash or oils and extracting parts of it and those parts are edible? What a crazy idea! I will have to do research on the "Franistan Plan" that sounds neat! I have never watched M*A*S*H* before except on TV - I think I will buy all the seasons and watch that as my before bed show (Lord knows I have watched Alfred Hitchcock Presents and The Twilight Zone episodes enough times!).

I wanna brush up on MASH also because fellas like you and Housil and a few others off MREinfo have talked about it - will give me a new thing to chat with you guys! Which that makes it worth it in itself.

Hope you enjoyed all these photos - boy they sure are interesting and it gives us all a peek at when this stuff was still "Fresh" hahahah!

:D

Oh! I also got a few more pictures to share - one from Natick here are pictures of Space Food! Such amazing stuff!

Hey Steve1989! MASH was a real funny show back in the day, although I did not appreciate Hawkeye trashing and bad-mouthing America the way he did on nearly every episode but that was how Alan Alda really felt. The franistan plan was of course fiction but still funny in an ominous sort of way, I guess. Anyway these photos you posted are awesome, I'd love to find a complete listing of fallout shelter food pack contents from the 1950s-1960s because according to an uncle of mine who worked civil defense at the state level, there was more stuff besides just crackers and candy.

Hey rationtin,

I have the M*A*S*H DvD's on my Christmas list.. heheh! If I don't get em', I am probably going to buy them the day after because I'm really excited to watch them now. As for the fellow "hawkeye" I will just take that aspect with a grain of salt - nothing in this world will ever sway my unwavering love for the US! :)

Still reading about the franistan plan - just sounds so intriguing!

Glad you enjoyed the photos - as soon as I have several spare non-fatigued hours, I will be providing as much info as I can on each one.

As for the Fallout Shelter Food Packets, I will ask around - maybe there are photos sitting in someone's collection or something and I will have to buy them even - no worries! When I want something like that, I find it. It may take time, but for me half of it is the thrill of the hunt! Wish me luck, I am going to make a mission outta it!

:D

Many of those photos are like autopsy photos of MREs. Cool but a little creepy. I remember being taught nutrition in elementary school in the late 70's. We were shown examples of foods photographed in a similar style as these pictures. I'm trying to decide which picture would look best on a wall in my dining room.
