I remember the oposite in Nov. 1973. We had a "car free" sunday that time, nobody excapt EMTs, Police etc... were allowed to drive.

The OPEC reduce the production on purpose to increase the price up to 70% in the very next year (1974) up to another 200% as their protest against the Yom-Kippur-War

The gas wars were in California, in 1971, good times !
During the yom Kippur war, (1973) I was in the Mediteranean, on a Patrol Gunboat, shadowing soviet warships and freighters taking Russian equipment to Syria and egypt. Dozens of Russians, loaded with tanks and trucks, and only one freighter taking stuff to Israel.
It was running at night, no lights, name painted over, and had several F-4 phantoms on deck, still painted with U.S. markings...
My ship was homeported in Naples (Napoli) Italy, But I was seldom home...
Gas was rationed, we had coupons and paid $0.50 per gallon. The US government paid the rest.
Locals were paying about $ 2.85 per, as I recall.
Mind you, I was only making about $ 400 a month then...

They had this gas coupons untill "today" over here.

Today gas is "down" to €1.17/liter = $5.76/gallon, as "cheap" as the end of 2005

Gas in Rural Pennsylvania is down to $2.15 a gallon (around $0.57/liter I think). Price has been dropping fast.

I paid $1.87 in SC last week...but it was still up to $2.07 in Charlotte, NC.

This week is Tacoma, WA it is about $1.96 a gallon and holding there.

In California, regular is $ 2.17, Diesel is $2.75.

1.86 just about everywhere.

$1.99 in PA, USA. Filled up my jeep today for less than $20, I am alright with that.
