hey, Aquarius, BlOOk, when you travel abroad, do you carry your sandwiches with you from Holland (or maybe your MRE's) or is it yet another French mean legend?
When i was little and we used to travel to France & Spain we did bring some food from home. Not just sandwiches but other types of food too, especially peanut butter. :D

But those days are over for me now. My last trip to Germany i did bring some MRE's and some snacks but that was it.

Hate to admit that I know a lot of Dutchmen carrying their own food with them when going on holidays. Tons of potatoes, cans, bread, loaf etc are being brought into other countries. I only take some 'just in case' MRE's/rations with me.

But have you ever seen what these foreigners, especially the mean French eat? When you go to a French butcher you'll see parts of animals you even didn't know they existed. They eat liver, brains, tongues, intestines of all kind of animals.
Rumors say the French eat also live animal... Terrible n'est pas? Ils sont des sauvages de l'Europe!
Luckily the French rations are very okay.

Election 2008

An Historic First in the United States.

Like voting in Soviet Russia - no MATTER who you voted for from the Republican or Democratic ticket, you got one of these...

this is what happens when you don't have closed primaries - you let the media and the other side choose your party's candidate.

Nice picture of Vladimir Ilitch Obama
Well, we'll all see if he's really able to do a good job or it was just a big bluff. Hope he'll do well as when the USA catches a cold, all the planet coughs :? (Europe included)

Thanks for your answers Blook and Aquarius, my butcher was asking me "we see a lot of Dutch tourists who visit Brittany/France but they never buy anything, do they eat?"
I'll tell him to stop selling all those disgusting organs

I´m happy that we have a social system over here since WWII is over

We understand that you are scary about socialism, but you had to vote Castro, Putin, or any other eastern felon to your President to get it 8)

We had socialism over (t)here in EAST-Germany for 40 years:

in the evolution of political systems, it's often said that pure socialism will move towards capitalism and that capitalism will move towards socialism - and somewhere in the middle they will meet.

i just never thought i would see a swing to the far left in my lifetime in US.

while the US has gradually been edging towards socialism since the "great society" of FDR, social democracy and democratic socialism is a new concept to most of us yankess.

this country's origins began with a "tea party" in boston harbor as a protest over taxation without representation and now it seems that our current elected officials and the new administration to come have no reservations about adding yet more taxes to those that already pay taxes to support others that don't pay tax.

truly a "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need" tax. scary for us westerners.

most of us acknowledge that we are "our brother's keeper" and as such we contribute to charity or tithe thru our church or participate in other fundraisers or volunteer.

i think what a lot of us resent is that those who pay little or no federal or state taxes will get even more benefits and credits at the expense of those who work harder and by luck or effort make more money.

what also scares us is that our major media no longer even pretends to be unbiased. for those in the center of the political spectrum, there is a clear bias towards social democracy and democratic socialism and candidates and parties that embrace that philosophy.

"free speech" here has surrendered to politcal correctness and what the left deems is "correct"

and as for the rights of the citizens to keep and bear arms, that right will be diluted with "common sense" gun control measures until only the government and criminals have weapons and ammo.

with our new left, it seems that the only acceptable religion to practice in this country seems to be any one that is non-christian. i can't tell you the last time i heard a church bell tolling on a sunday because of concerns over noise and offending no christians.

yet there doesn't seem to be same reciprocity around mosques that blare their calls to prayer over loudspeakers in the same neighborhoods.

i could go on, the only thing that does seem certain here is that the next 8 -12 years will be an interesting ride. let's hope it doesn't end with a starry eyed nationalist making speeches in a beer house and giving rise to nationalist movement.
