yes, that's a point but you also have the French version of the ration field stripping used in the 80's:
you open the "C" or "T" pack, take the schnapps and the "Gauloise" cigarettes, throw all the rest (corned-beef, tuna fish, pâté...) to the trash or give it to a kid (there are always kids watching the tanks around a military exercise) and then you tell the people in the nearest village or farm that you're starving and they give you fresh bread, sausages, apple pies, beer cans
Well I admit it's not very well suited for real operations in an enemy territory or a commando operation, but anyway that's the French army...
I guess the legionnaires don't use this method, except for the beer!

I finally snagged a case with "Buy It Now". $65 plus shipping. Type 3.
I don't know how many cases this seller has socked away, but I'll feel kind of bad if they wind up going for much less than that before he's done.

Yes, I'm happy. I've never tasted EPA's before.
I see from the information page on this site that each EPA has two entrees and a lot of sides.
Is one box of these supposed to be a whole day's ration for each soldier? 24 hour ration, or is is supplemented with an additional meal, from a field kitchen perhaps?
That was a common mix when I was in the U.S. Army: Two MRE's per day plus one "hot A" from the battalion's cooks.

The EPA's have 4000+ calories, enough for a soldat in combat. This would be one days ration. For me, it would be ~ 3 days food, its very filling !
Your appetite may vary
The french, british, russian rats are also 24 hr.
Also Norgies, Dutch, et al...

D'oh!... an EPA!
I didn't know how many calories were in the pack but what I know is that I'm not hungry when I go for a walk in the country with one pack for the day .
..and I'm not a fan of ultra-light stuff and WeightWatchers food, its just OK to keep my two hundred pounds of fat in good condition

Yup, everybody seems to know how to feed the troops except the U.S.
Of course, 3 MRE's = 4500 kcals... plus a lot of bulky packaging !

As of 0730 EST, there's another case of EPA's up on eBay for $65 Buy-It-Now. Item number: 180121830860.
Its Type 3, or I might have bought it already. I'm just not certain how many "Vegetable Stir Fry With Tofu" and "Beef Patties With Tomato Sauce" I want to eat.

But you are right, an EPa is a 24hrs ration and contains a whole continental breakfast (1 can whole grain bread, several paste, marmelade (not jam!!) and cheese coffee, tea, beverages etc) 2 entrees, 1 "snack" (fruit cocktail or semolina) and the ususally accessoires...
