Yeah, the news won't stop covering the fires. It's too bad I never get to see any, not that I want to see peoples homes in danger, but I'm surrounded by concrete, and on the top of a hill located in the valley. We have the best firefighters in California due to the regularly almost scheduled fires, they really don't need any practice.

The Santa Barbara fire is only 50 miles South of me, 120 or so houses gone.
As they are Multi-million dollar mansions, my sympathy is ...somewhat muted...
Stupid people building up in a canyon, they get burned out and then insurance builds them a new one, up the same canyon !
Then MY insurance goes up to pay for them !!

Similar over here, we life next to a river (on a hill  ).
Once a year is a flood, drowning the basements of the houses at the riverside.
But the river was there first... :!:

Dirtbag,

Don't feel too bad, the same thing happens here in the Pacific Northwest. The really ignorant people build there multi-million dollars homes in the so called wilderness then forget to do any pruning, yard maintenance, or brushing of their homes. Then when a fire rips through the neighborhood, like it was this past week with those moblie homes in your state, the people complain to the state and the Goverment about why they didn't do anything to save their homes. Then the insurance bails them out  , then they rebuild again, and this time they get much nicer homes and the property tax base goes up, then my property tax goes up as well :x and then in 5 years we start all over again. As a firefighter my smypathy is non-existant at these people (i.e. morons) when they go on the TV and complain that they did all they could to save their house. If you check, the 2006 Esperansa fire killed 4 US Forest Service FF's and destroyed their truck while trying to save 2 people in their multi story million dollar house, who BTW, REFUSED to leave after being told to do so!

So I feel your pain and frustation, I really do. Sorry about the rant, guys, but every year I have to deal with this. Thanks

Heat Wave 2009

It's a new season and this year again it looks like another tough year for firefighters in California.
