Over an Esbit, you would want to stir it while you heat it so that the edges and bottom do not burn. When the contents are heated through, it's ready, there is no real time instruction when you're dealing with the number of variables that you might encounter using an Esbit or any other outdoor stove.
Due to experience, if you use genuine Bundeswehr ESBIT cubes (they are bigger than civilian ones), after burning down HALF an ESBIT cube, your dish is well done! (Civilian ones take two - as they are smaller).
Keep it closed, the steam inside will heat it up faster, when the cover is "swelled" close to "explode" it´s right

To aviod burning the food inside, shake it from time to time.
"Plan B", take your fork (or any other spiky item) from cuttlery and stab several little holes in the (top-) cover lid, allowing the steam to come out. (Thats the way I do it every time.)

MCIera wrote:I agree with Housil, it makes no sense to heat up an oven for such a tiny item, it is a total waste of energy. If you in a situation where you have an oven available, you probably have a microwave available as well. If you heat it in boiling water, about 7-8 minutes should be fine (don't keep the water boiling, just bring it to a boil and then bring it down to a simmer after you put the tray in.)
So when I boil, just to clarify, I submerge the tray complelety under water?
The energy waste is something I never thought about with the oven. I live in a university apartement and my electric bill is fixed no matter how much or how little juice I use. But yes, ecological it is not.
Microwave I have never bothered to buy. I suppose I should. But right now I have a small kitchen and I "have to choose what I carry".

Don´t buy this!!!!!!!!
This "EPa´s" are just common supermarkt items collected in a card bord box, offerd for €13,90
The entree´s are available at
EVERY supermarket over here for ~€ 1.20
They are made by the same manufacturer as the genuine Bundeswehr EPa entrees, but different in dish AND shelf life!
The seller just took the
manufacturers genuine pics:
and fotot shoped the labels a "little bit":
Everybody can use the word "EPa" over here, it´s not a trademark
You always find those faked EPa´s at
epay etc...
That´s Rudi´s (jubifahrer) and my thread at German Military Vehikle Forums about rations. 15 pages with more than 420 postings for the last 3 years...

Hold on,i think those are availeable here too easily, from Lidl, the closest to me is like 1500 meters from my location.
so theres nothing special in those compared to military version Except for the shelf life actually ?
and different markings?

There are some differences between civilian and military dishes.
The Bundeswehr ones have a seperate "plastic layer" inside.
All civilian dishes are not available with the military and all military dishes are not available at the stores EXCAPT the cevapcici!
The civilian may contain e.g. medalions with noodles. The noodles may soak and will get slushi
