in 1988 the big numbers was added to the mre bag so its after 1988.
That's what I was assuming, a 30 year-old ration. I'm no expert, though.

What do you mean by "big numbers"? How were the date codes printed prior to 1988?

Thank you for the info!

I can tell you with certainty that it came from a standard case of 1990 MREs. They came from a career Army MSgt. that retired sometime in the mid 90s. I bought this case from him along with two cases of 1982, and a case each of 1989, 1990, and 1992. Here are some pics of the case it came from. It was still sealed and had the bands on it.

The menus and numbers (for six, at least) are the ones I showed. My six bags came out of the box in Xan_Man85's pictures.

Of the 6 remaining rations, there was a Menu 12 (Escalloped Potatoes w/ Ham), a Menu 2 (Corned Beef Hash), Chicken Ala King, Beef Stew, and two more that have either gotten sold or have otherwise disappeared. The bags for the Chicken Ala King and Beef Stew had bags that were completely falling apart, so I probably threw them away and put the components in a ziploc bag.
