I hope Sean gets some stuff from you- I hear he's been looking for something like this
most wanted: RCIR, MCI/B units, IMPs, anything old, and a packet or two of RAFCO soup. PM if you've got these, or anything else to sell that isn't too expensive.
Re: Collection of ACCESSORY PACKETS from different US Rations
ok, here's a few...
first is a late war C rat accessory packet (long.) they blacked out the original accessory packet text for it

second is a cigarette packet that i assume is the match for it, the "short packet" but i'm not 100% (one corner is open just enough that i can be certain of the contents. it's a 9 pack of philip morris in wwii packaging)

last is a damned-if-i-know, no idea what this is. i'm guessing it's some form of the same c rat long packet

Like the packets in Steve1989's post, I have 5 Accessory Packets with no contents listed. These were acquired as documented in the Estate Sale Purchase - Late 80's Prepper thread.steve1989 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2017 11:50 pmAn update to MREheater72's amazing thread.
I have a couple of these unlisted acc packets. No contents list.
This one was in rough shape, so I decided to open it.
No coffee instant. Instead, a tea bag! And pepper!
Also, look at that vintage moist towlette.
An interesting find. Was it for an MCI or MRE?
Wish I knew.![]()
The words "Accessory Packet" are underlined like the ones from the early 70's with cigarettes and listed contents. If one flips the package bottom to top, the reverse side of the package is identical to the side I photographed.
ACCESSORY PACKET
SO.-PAK.-CO.
MULLINS, S.C., USA
Since I had a few of these, I thought I'd open one that was in poor condition and see what the contents looked like.
The second image is the rear of the items in the first image.
I think this package of instant coffee is interesting. Does this item help date this Accessory Packet?
The salt & sugar seem to be fine in their packages.
The coffee & creamer are rock solid.
I'm aware that the matches can help date things... but I don't have the decoder ring.
So what do the gurus say about the age of the Accessory Packet? I would think mid-70's based on the age of the other items found at the Estate Sale but I look forward to knowledgable folks thoughts.

Hey Scott,
Those packets are from the 1979 / 1980 So-Pak-Co civilian "MCI's". They are not rare, but certainly not as common as the military version.
Hope that helps!

Interesting... so were these "civilian" MCI's like the current Humanitarian MRE's (HDR) or were they just a MCI sold on the market similar to civilian MRE's?
Best regards,
Scott

They were produced and sold like civilian MRE's are today. I have only seen 1979 and 1980 dated components so I guess they were only sold for a short time.

Thank you! I was completely unaware that "Civilian MCI's" existed.

Incredible example! This has to be next on my list to replicate. So much good material here in craftable containers. Only thing missing is a scale for measurements.
